Mouradian to Discuss ‘Physicians and Nurses during the Genocide’ in NJ on Sept. 25

ENGLEWOOD, N.J.—Khatchig Mouradian, visiting assistant professor at Rutgers University, will deliver a lecture entitled, “Don’t Come, Doctor, There Is No Cure: Physicians, Nurses, and Pharmacists During the Armenian Genocide,” in Englewood on Sept. 25.

Organized by the Armenian American Health Professional Organization (AAHPO), the lecture explores, through a wealth of archival documents and photographs, the role that doctors, pharmacists, and nurses played throughout the Ottoman Empire during the Armenian Genocide, with a particular focus on Aleppo and the concentration camps along the Euphrates River from Meskene to Der Zor.

Mouradian is visiting assistant professor at the Division of Global Affairs at Rutgers University and the coordinator of the Armenian Genocide Program at the university’s Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights (CGHR). He also teaches at Worcester State University. He is the recipient of the Gulbenkian Armenian Studies research fellowship to study the Armenian community in China in the 20th century (2014). He was the editor of the Armenian Weekly in Boston from 2007-2014. He is the recipient of the first Hrant Dink Freedom and Justice Medal (2014) of the Organization of Istanbul Armenians.

AAHPO’s mission is to improve health care awareness, increase disease prevention and early detection, foster fellowship and career development of Armenian health care professionals, and provide medical support and education to both local communities and Armenia.
