KOV to Honor Akcam, Zarakolu in NY

On Sat., July 7, Dr. Taner Akcam, a Turkish historian and sociologist, and one of the first Turkish academics to acknowledge and openly discuss the Armenian Genocide by the Ottoman-Turkish government, will be honored at the Knights and Daughters of Vartan Annual Convocations Banquet at the Mariott Downtown in New York. An associate professor of history at Clark University, Akcam is the author of a number of books on the Armenian Genocide.

Ragip Zarakolu, a prominent Turkish human rights activist and publisher, will also be honored. Zarakolu has long faced legal harassment for publishing books on controversial subjects in Turkey, especially on minority and human rights. He has published at least 10 books on the “Armenian Question” and several books on the Armenian Genocide.

The public at large is invited to attend this unique event on Sat., July 7 at the Marriott Downtown in New York City, 85 West Street at Albany Street.
