ARLINGTON, Mass.—On Sunday afternoon, Oct. 14, three Armenian-American women writers will discuss their work at “A Literary Afternoon,” sponsored by the Armenian International Women’s Association (AIWA) and held at the Armenian Cultural Foundation (ACF) in Arlington.
Sylva Boyadjian-Haddad, the founder and editor-in-chief of “Entelechy International/A Journal of Contemporary Ideas,” Lola Koundakjian, curator of the Armenian Poetry Project, and Seta Terzian, author of Two Girls from Heliopolis, will present their recent publications and discuss the evolving process of creative writing and publication from their differing perspectives.
A writer and poet, Boyadjian-Haddad is professor of English and comparative literature at New England College in Henniker, N. H. Her work has appeared in numerous literary journals and magazines, and her collection of poems, entitled “Salt” (published by Finishing Line Press), was released in 2011. A native of Beirut, Lebanon, she currently resides in Concord, N.H.
Lola Koundakjian published her first collection of poetry, “The Accidental Observer,” in 2011; her second manuscript, “Advice to a Poet,” is ready for publication. She is the poetry editor of “Ararat,” and has read her work in various venues in New York, Los Angeles, and Rhode Island, as well as in Medellín, Colombia, at the 20th international poetry festival. Born and raised in Beirut, she has lived in New York since 1979.
Seta Terzian has just published her first novel, Two Girls from Heliopolis, a book based on her life growing up in Heliopolis, a suburb of Cairo, Egypt. It tells the story of the Armenian community there, the changes brought about during the North African Campaign of World War II, and her subsequent immigration to the United States. An active participant in the Armenian community, particularly as a leader in the Armenian Relief Society (ARS) and the Armenian Renaissance Association, she resides in Dedham, Mass.
The public is cordially invited to attend the program, which will begin at 2:30 p.m. at the ACF, 441 Mystic St., Arlington, Mass. A reception and book signing will follow the program.
