Oregon Congressional Candidate Brad Avakian Fundraises in Ohio

CINCINNATI, Ohio— Brad Avakian, an Armenian American candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, was in Ohio on Sept. 17 -18, where he met with Ohio Armenian Americans at fundraising events in Columbus and Cincinnati. Avakian has served in both Houses of the Oregon State Legislature and currently serves as the commissioner for labor and industry for the state of Oregon. He is a leading candidate to fill an open Congressional seat, which includes much of the city of Portland, Ore.

“Brad is an outstanding leader and one that Armenian Americans can be proud of,” said David Krikorian of Cincinnati, who helped organize the weekend trip.  Columbus businessman Ty Safaryan and his family opened their beautiful home to the many guests who came to hear  Avakian outline his plan to help America get back to work. “I am really impressed with Brad’s distinguished career as a public servant,” Safaryan said. “He’s really dedicated to helping people.”

“I enjoyed my quick trip to Ohio,” said Avakian. “I am grateful to the Armenian American community for all of the wonderful support they are providing.”

Avakian’s grandparents came to the U.S. at the turn of the last century.  His grandfather moved to Fresno, Calif. from Moush in 1898, while his grandmother came from Bitlis in 1900.

The funds raised on the trip will be used to purchase media advertisements in advance of Avakian’s special primary election on Nov. 8.
