In Memory of Elizabeth Elasarian
Elizabeth (Yeghsa) Elasarian of Waukegan, Illinois passed away on August 30, 2024, with her family at her side at Vista Hospital in Waukegan. She was born on January 18, 1932, to Ohan and Siranoush (Garabedian/Papazian) Elasarian, both survivors of the Armenian Genocide of 1915. She graduated from Lincoln-McAllister Elementary School and Waukegan Township High School in 1949.
Elasarian retired from Great Lakes Naval Hospital as a contracting officer and received the very high Civilian Distinguished Award at her retirement luncheon.
Elasarian was an active member of the Armenian Youth Federation and supported their activities for most of her life, including many years of attending Midwest Junior Olympics and national Senior Olympics as well as local functions. She was made an honorary member of the local Waukegan “Ararat” Chapter of the AYF many years ago. She was a member of the Armenian Relief Society and remained a loyal supporter of their activities after her local chapter was dissolved. She also supported local ARF activities.
Elasarian cruised for 20-plus years with her sister on the Armenian Heritage cruises, where they spent time with friends and relatives from all over the United States and from other countries and made many new friends. She looked forward to this each year.
Elasarian was a very kind, thoughtful and loving person, who always did things for others. Her superb cooking and baking skills were enjoyed by family members and many friends. She took care of her younger siblings for most of her life, after the untimely death of their mother at a young age.
Elizabeth is survived by her brother Elasar (John), her sister Anna, nephews Mark (Barbara) Pederson, Michael (Jeni) Pederson and Robert (Laura) Pederson, great nieces Rachel (Grant) Holler, Natalie (Marcus) Lommel and Alyssa (Chad) Anderson, great great nieces Payton Lommel, Eloise Holler and Jovie Fjelstad, and great great nephews Mark Pederson Carlson, Gabriel Fjelstad and Noah Fjelstad. She was preceded in death by her parents Ohan and Siranoush Elasarian, sister and brother-in-law Mary and Doug Pederson and grandparents Garabed and Havas Garabedian.
Funeral service was held on September 6 at Armenian All Saints Apostolic Church in Glenview, Illinois, and interment was at North Shore Garden of Memories. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that memorial contributions be made to All Saints Church, 1701 Greenwood Rd., Glenview, IL 60026.
