In Loving Memory of Sonia Shiragian Blackwell

What an accomplishment and what a fulfilling life she has led, the only child of the legendary avenger Arshavir Shiragian and his wife Kayane. I had read about her years ago in Antranig Zarougian’s book titled “The Greats and the Others” in the chapter titled “Arshavir Shiragian and Trasdamad Ganayan (Tro)”. He recalled the candid conversation they have over dinner in her parent’s house in flawless Armenian. Obviously she was more than conversant in Armenian having worked as a translator in the U.N. and translated her father’s memoir having helped her father write his memoirs perpetuating her father’s legacy for posterity.
Pinky, I am so sad to hear this. Your mom was incredibly cool to me, even before I knew she was nominated for Pulitzer and published a story in the New Yorker. What a life. Sending your whole family lots of love.
