‘Khloe and Lamar’ to Discuss Armenian Genocide

March 11th Episode of E! Network Hit Will Feature Film and Photos from AYF Alumni

WASHINGTON—”Khloe and Lamar,” the hit E! Network “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” spin-off viewed weekly worldwide by millions, will feature a discussion of the Armenian Genocide highlighting contemporary footage and photography by two veterans of the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF), Armen Varadian and Justin Kaladjian.

Khloe and Lamar

The episode is set for broadcast this Sun., March 11 at 10 p.m. Eastern/9 Central.

The discussion of the Armenian Genocide will focus on whether Khloe Kardashian’s husband, NBA Star Lamar Odom, will play basketball in Turkey, a particularly sensitive point given the Kardashian family’s pride in their Armenian heritage, and Turkey’s legacy as an unrepentant perpetrator of a genocide against the Armenian people.

E! Network producers reached out to the Genocide Education Project (GenEd) after seeing film footage and photography from an educational video that Varadian and GenEd Education Director Sara Cohan had prepared as part of a human rights curriculum project funded by the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities.  The documentary featured photo’s of AYF-organized anti-genocide protests in New York and Washington taken by Kaladjian, as well as photography and video taken by Varadian in Armenia.

“We really appreciate the show’s interest in learning more about the efforts of young Armenians to raise public awareness of the Armenian Genocide, and are very excited by the fact that this weekend millions of people around the world—many for the first time—will learn about our work for a truthful and just resolution of this terrible crime,” said Varadian and Kaladjian, in joint remarks.

“We were glad to be able to share educational resources with the producers of “Khloe and Lamar” to help spread awareness about the Armenian Genocide, and look forward to continuing to work with all the Kardashians in ending the cycle of genocide worldwide,” noted Cohan.

  1. Turkey doesn’t belong to Turks alone
Underneath their ground there are Armenians
    With their skulls
With their souls above in the sky
    Watching their role…

    Turkey belongs to this earth
    They are only invaders there
If the Earth Vanishes …One day
    They will vanish as well

So let Every-One go and play
See Aya Sofia and Armenian Mumar-Sinan
    What he build there
And don’t chain any one… of his freedom
Let him to do what he wants…

    • sylva,

      i disagree

as long as it’s called “turkey”, it will belong to “turks” one way or another

if you want it to belong to everyone (as it shouild), an all-inclusive name should be chosen, just to begin with…

  2. armenian actors, armenians in the media, tv, radio talking, promoting, educating people about the armenian genocide is the best, free advertising that anyone can wish for, easily counter acting the lies of the cowardly turkish state. turks are spending millions to cover up their inhuman activities and murders of the past. we can continue to bring out the truth without spending a penny. it’s free, is there a better way.

  3. Gerard,
May i add that this couple ,plus indeed the initiators the two Armenian youngmen,Varadian and Kaladjian (AYF youth) and Ms.Cohan who have helped prepare/produce the feature film and then indeed its WORLDWIDE spin off!!!
worth millions, but at no cost for Armenians and their Cause.
Kudos to above and let´s hope the Kardashian family will continue their just quest for Justice their ancestors martyred deserve.

  4. I’m very pleased that we find this way to bring awareness to this ongoing Denial of the 1915 genocide of the Armenians. I myself lost a Grandmothe & Uncle, My Mother at nine yrs. old was placed in a American orphanage, and never spoke about her childhood, for it was unspeakable !! I am the daughter of this wonderful strong Armenian woman ,her name Lucille Sirabian Tomasian,

  5. Since the Armenia’s football (succer) team went to Turkey and played there why are we asking Lamar to not go to Turkey.

It is appreciated that the show is going to bring awareness of the Armenian Genocide but it is too much to ask Lamar not to play there.

  6. right on gaytzag. you know, i’m just an artist and musician.

when i was in our homeland i created paintings of armenia. some were published in limited edition prints. these prints are in gendale ca., maybe we can create awareness and raise money for our cause with donations.
i’m in canada right now. if this works, money buys ads. boy, who wouldn’t want to present one of there beautifully framed prints to the kardashian’s, maybe we’ll get a kiss on the cheek for our effort.
    sincerely

    • Dear Gerard,
I ventured into your site.It is interesting, but I don´t quite follow what you wish to convey as to ¨raise money with donations¨¨..

Armenian fund raisings(copied from North American style)is there and every day one new pops up.Respect to them…but my friend once told me..¨I´m tired of donating and donating, to this to that…establishment..if your(Gaytzag´s) National investment Trust Fund comes to life then I shall gladly INVEST IN SAME and large amounts(a millionaire he..)Yous ee, dear Gerard Armenians also lag behind many other Diasporas such as the jewish,Chinese et.,
I have come up with above ¨Fund¨read me in http://www.armeniannewes.info

or we do it or we go on raising Fundlings….

  7. Dear Sylva,

I love your poem above. I will make one addition my dear, and that is the entire land of Turkey was Armenia over 5,000 years, and thus we were the indegenous people of the entire Eastern part of today’s Turkey. The entire Western part of todays Turkey was Byzantium of the Greeks. The lower part belonged to the earlier times of the Babylonians, today’s Assysrians and the Kurds. The Turks only came from the steppes of Mongolia about a thousand years ago. They colonized the entire lands and then committed a Genocide not only to the Christian Armenians that were mostly annihilated barbarically, but to the Christian Greeks as well as to the Christian Assyrians. About 2 Million Armenians and 1.6 Million combined the Greeks and the Assyrians.

  8. About 2 million Armenians were annihilated by the CUP Ittihadists of Turkey in 1915 and 1.6 million combined Greeks and Assyrians were annihilated as well by the the Turkish government of 1915.

  9. Just watched the episode and it was a bit disappointing. Khloe might as well have been presenting the Turkish point of view. She spoke of the genocide as a debatable fact. Wrong! Turkey may debate, deny, and distort the facts, but the international community recognizes it as the first genocide of the 20th century. Turks want everyone to believe there is a debate but Raphael Lemkin who coined the term based in part on what happened to the Armenians, had no doubt about what he was describing.

Khloe girl, thanks for trying to represent Armenian sensitivity, but I wish you had spoken with more strength and clarity—or had someone else do it! It was a missed opportunity.

    • I forgot to mention, why haven’t any of the Kardes-ians ever been to Armenia? They surely have enough wealth. They have plenty of time.

    • “I’ll follow you anywhere Lamar” – Khloe at the end of the episode.

“Anywhere” includes land of the savage killer Turks. She must not be too concerned about the “genocide”. If they had went, they probably would have stayed in one of the wealthy parts of Istanbul where ARMENIANS tend to live. Yes ARMENIANS live in the wealthier parts of Istanbul. Yesilkoy, sisli, bebek, Nisantasi, Kinali Ada………….

    • “…the wealthy parts of Istanbul where ARMENIANS tend to live. Yes ARMENIANS live in the wealthier parts of Istanbul”

      WRONG

      blatant example of misinformation

i grew up in ist & know exactly which parts of ist armenians reside in & their wealth distribution demographically

    • LNG, can you please elaborate on where Armenians live in Istanbul and what the wealth distribution is? If they are not wealthy, how come a majority send their kids to private schools? Please tell me where the Armenians live in Istanbul? You can’t just disagree with me and not back up your comment. They have historically been located on the Bosphorus where the most expensive real estate is.

  10. Dear Boyajian,
I think you are rather stingy in your words to Khloe.
What did you expect a Prof. Richard G.Hovhaniisian and or prof Vahagn Dadrian delivering a discourse on the armenian Genocide???
She did a good job and millions, repeat millions watching..she did mentioned her father´s family from Trukey(SHOWING QUICKLY SIGHTS OF THE EVICTED AND MAP WHERE HER ARMENIAN CULTURE ORIGINATED…
WHAT IS MORE ..at the near end Lamar saying If he goes to Turkey(for that was the subject matter of the film….it will be like an Ambassador of peace between the Armenian and Turks…which is not a bad thing to say.A try to …anyhow …I near forgot her brother (forgot his name9 also mentioned about Armenian Genocide etc.,
I trust this will not be the last of the KARDASHIAN´s doing a good work re our CAUSE. let us not be too demanding from people who are not experts on the issue. Thanks for your efforts Ms.Kardashian, brother and Lamar

    • Perhaps you’re right Mr. Palandjian. I do appreciate the fact that she didn’t shy away from the topic, but I worry that the uninformed were left believing that a true debate exists. We know better. For most of the world, there is the truth and there is its denial by Turkey. This denial doesn’t change the truth.

I don’t blame Khloe, I just wish more could have been made of the opportunity to portray the truth of our history.

  11. Dear Boyajian and Mr. Palandjian,

I appreciate Boyajian’s concern because it would be my concern too that there is NO debate matter that exists about the Armenian Genocide, but I also understand your point of view Gaytzag jan, that neither Khloe or Lamar are doctors of emeritus on the subject of the Genocide, nevertheless they brought up the subject matter on the media and the more it is well known throughout the world as well as in this country the better; however in my heart I tend to wish like Boyajian does that they were more knowledgeable about it and never said or used the debatable word, because it is definitely not the case. It has indeed happened and now it’s a case of justice to prevail through international legal channels for Turkey to reprimand their heinous deeds of the murder of a nation.

  12. Agree with Boyajian and thought the same thing as Jda. This was the “politically correct” version of the Genocide, not the CORRECT one.

As far as the suggestion that Khloe could bring peace between the ts and Armenians…that was just plain pathetic.

Good thing the season started and they didn’t have to make a decision.

    • I appreciate the fact that the genocide was discussed on such a popular program. It was good that Khloe cared enough about her Armenian heritage to deal with this topic on air and lend her celebrity to the cause. But it pains me anytime Turkey gains ground in its campaign to create doubt about the truth of the genocide or suggest that there are ‘two sides’ to genocidal acts. Also Lamar’s comment that Khloe could be an ambassador of peace in Turkey was well-intentioned and on the surface, it sounds open-minded and positive. I like that, but it makes it sound like this is a conflict between two parties that share guilt. Genocidal acts can’t be blamed on the victims regardless of any imagined provocation.

I can’t really fault Lamar or Khloe; I’m just very touchy when it comes to Turkey getting any kind of a pass for 97 years of denial, distortion and avoiding justice for wiping out its Armenians. Our cause is strong and right and should easily hold its own, but sadly it can get lost in the confusion Turkey creates with every suggestion of ‘civil war’ or ‘casualties of war’ or ‘Turks died too’ or ‘these were unintentional consequences to deportations’ or ‘we need an historical commission.’ Just look at the situation in France: denial of the Holocaust is illegal but restricting denial of the Armenian genocide is ‘unconstitutional.’ Inconsistency for sure..

  13. i thought Khloe did a very credible job on her show last night. There are many limitations to deal with in giving this type of message on that venue, but she dealt with them very well. Her position was clear….there was a genocide, it is denied by the Turks and I feel a strong connection to my heritage. Good for her.
The debate was presented in the context of Turkish denial. Quite appropriate.
Great job by Armen Varadian and Justin Kaladjian…. young Armenians continuing the work with their talents. Let’s hope it has further impact.

  14. E’s Talk soup made a joke about Armenian Genocide people! If you guys are ok with these guys making jokes about Armenian Genocide, the I don’t think that you can call your self Armenian!

  15. The Kardashian clan will do anything to stay in the limelight including exploiting the Armenian Genocide for their own selfish interest. She figured there is about a million Armenians live in the US, let me do something to make them watch our show and get ratings. I want them to make donations and help the poor in Armenia. The only Armenian things about this family is the last name…that’s all. The language she uses on her show is so inappropriate. She is terrible.
