AYF Olympics Opening Ceremonies Will Take Place Sept. 4

Ceremony to Honor Kings, Queens, and Alumni; Feature Renowned Singer Hooshere

Armenian Youth Federation (AYF) members being led by the Homenetmen scouts and band; AYF chapters being led by alumni they chose to honor; a renowned singer performing the national anthems; the entrance of the Olympic torch—this is the excitement and pageantry of the Olympic Opening Ceremonies of the 83rd Annual AYF Olympic Weekend, hosted by the New Jersey “Arsen” AYF Chapter.

This year’s Opening Ceremonies will be held at the Rutgers University Bauer Track and Field Complex on Sept. 4 at noon.

This year, the New Jersey Olympic Steering Committee has invited each AYF chapter to select one or two alumni, who they feel have positively impacted the AYF community, to lead their chapter in the parade. And to add to the day’s festivities, renowned Armenian singer Hooshere will perform both the Armenian and American national anthems. With the opening invocation and remarks by His Eminence Archbishop Oshagan Choloyan, Prelate of the Prelacy of Armenian Apostolic Church of the Eastern United States, and greetings from the AYF Central Executive, Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Central Committee, and the New Jersey Host Committee, the opening ceremonies will certainly reflect the unified community with representatives of the Armenian Relief Society (ARS), Hamazkayin, and Homenetmen also being recognized.

The host New Jersey “Arsens” chapter and last year’s victors, the Providence “Varantian” chapter athletes will relay the Olympic torch into the stadium… Let the games begin!
