The truth is that NATO has always ignored Turkey’s crimes, beginning in the 1920s when the genocide ended. Like you mentioned, the 1974 invasion proved it. Russia could not intervene directly in Artsakh because Armenia does not recognize it, while Cyprus was an independent nation invaded by Turkey. Enabling Turks is a cornerstone of the Anglo-American policy in order to keep Russia at a distance.
Why it is that when it comes to politics even seemingly intelligent ones among us become ignorant?
Moscow was NEVER on board with our people’s stance on Artsakh. In fact, no one in the world supported Armenia’s military presence in Artsakh. We had gone against the wishes of the international community when we brought the war out of Artsakh proper and took territories that was internationally recognized as Azerbaijan. We therefore knew we were alone in this fight for Artsakh. We knew this going back to day one. We knew that Moscow would protect Armenia with all its might but it had no intentions of doing the same for Artsakh. We therefore knew that Moscow had Armenia’s back but it was we Armenians that needed to protect Artsakh.
So, why are some of you surprised that Moscow did not quickly intervene to stop Baku’s military onslaught? It is because you do not understand politics or is it because you have an anti-Russian agenda to promote?
For decades Moscow had been telling us to give back the territories we had taken outside of Artsakh proper. For decades Moscow had been telling us to allow them to station their troops in the region. We collectively gave Moscow the middle finger in both regards, even though we knew Moscow was the ONLY guarantor of Armenia’s security. Not only that, we even saturated Armenia will all sorts of Western financed activists to show Moscow we had “options”.
While Armenia had governments that remained close to Russia, Moscow essentially looked the other way and allowed Armenia to keep its military presence in Artsakh. While Official Yerevan was firmly with Moscow, the status quo in Artsakh was maintained. Things began to change in 2018 when a Soros and NED (i.e. CIA) financed activist took power in Armenia. Apparently, politically illiterate and self destructive Armenians had not learned lessons from Elchibey’s Azerbaijan in the early 1990s, Saakashvili’s Georgia in 2008, Poroshenko’s Ukraine in 2014. When Nikol likewise began populating his government with Western financed anti-Russian activists immediately after coming to power, Moscow no longer had any reason to stop the inevitable in Artsakh. And when the inevitable happened, Armenians got massacred yet again in history.
President Putin had given Nikol a face saving way out of the historic mess his Western financed regime had gotten Artsakh into in mid October, but Nikol refused the offer. There is rumor now that Nikol refused to stop the war in mid October because he had previously promised Shushi to the Azeris. In any case, Armenians continued getting massacred on the battlefields and Artsakh continued getting smaller with each passing day. By November 9, Shushi was abandoned by Nikol’s government and Stepanakert was in serious danger. That is when Moscow saw that the situation was very dire and forced Baku to stop its military operations. Russians today are in control of what has remained of Artsakh. And that God for that. I hope to see the territory enter the Russian Federation as an autonomous oblast in the future.
Anyway, all the fedayee wannabees here need to look at what happened to Artsakh if you want to know what will happen to Armenia if Armenians are insane/suicidal enough to expel Russia’s military presence. The problem here is, there is unfortunately a surplus of suicidal Armenians…
I agree with your analysis particularly when you mention the fact that Russia is far weaker than you think, yes indeed Russia is weak and Russia was bribed by the azeris. This is a fact!
Not trying to debate. Just wondering about your statement that “Russia was bribed by the azeris(s). That is a fact!” How and when was Russia bribed? Is there an concrete proof that it happened. I honestly don’t know and would like to know.
Stepan Piligian – Very interesting article that does present some tough decisions that the Biden Administration will need to work out. I see quite a few Armenians on social media that believe Mr. Biden was derelict for not espousing his opinions while he was the Vice-President or in the Senate. As VP he was only there to replace the President and while in the Senate, he had one vote and ONLY one vote. Just because he didn’t submit a Bill to recognize NK doesn’t mean he didn’t try. Many MANY Bills never get off the drawing board because someone can’t find enough support for it to get it to committee. It is indeed an emotional issue for lots of Armenians but to damn a brand new administration because of his NOT having the authority to do anything about it during his tenure is amazing to me. It would be great if Mr. Biden would step up to benefitting Armenia but I continue to have at least what I think is a major problem for him. Armenia continues to embrace the platitudes of Mr. Putin while the citizens criticize the US for their lack of aid during the NK War of 2020. But how can they rightfully provide aid when Putin has a base sitting almost in downtown Yerevan? It’s a tough position to be in for both sides. Armenia needs to decide who they want to be buddies with, the West or Mr. Putin.
Russia needs us, and Armenia needs Russia. it is our geographical destiny. For centuries Armenians have exhibited great skills in existing and developing a diplomacy to achieve peaceful coexistence with other countries, we should bring back those qualities. Pachinian, a peaceful man, doesn’t seem to have the skills of a diplomat. his English was atrocious when debating Aliyev, who did a better and smoother job of defending his position on the international scene.Does the diaspora have a common policy to assist Armenia or we are only the cow to be milked? i think there should be stronger cooperation between both Armenia and Armenians globally, and a common policy to achieve more recognition of Armenia’s need and expectations worldwide.I am a native of Egypt, living in the US. my soul is Armenian,I never stop telling my friends and neighbors i am a proud Armenian.
