DETROIT, Mich.—The Armenian National Committee of America Eastern Region (ANCA-ER) recently announced that Robert Avetisyan, the permanent representative of the Nagorno-Karabagh Republic (NKR/Artsakh), will be at the 9th Annual ANCA-ER Banquet at the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel on Nov. 14. In addition, he will speak to the youth earlier in the day at the ANCA-ER Advocacy Workshop.

The workshop will take place on Nov. 14 at the St. Sarkis Church Lillian Arakelian Fellowship Hall from 10-4 p.m. Topics will include “Hai Tahd 101,” “Political Advocacy,” and “Grassroots Activism,” featuring experts in the field and hands-on exercises. The workshop is free and open to the community, but preference is given to members of the AYF and other youth organizations. Avetisyan began working in the NKR Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1999, where he served in a number of analytical and political departments. In 2008, he was appointed counselor of the NKR Permanent Representation in the United States. In February 2009, NKR President Bako Sahakyan appointed Avetisyan to his current post. Avetisyan holds a master’s degree in international affairs from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

Since his appointment, he has continuously affirmed Karabagh’s commitment to finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict with Azerbaijan, and has maintained that the recognition of Karabagh’s independence neither violates the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, nor threatens its existence.

The banquet, sponsored by the ANCA Eastern Region Endowment Fund, will begin with an elegant cocktail reception and silent auction at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and an awards ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the banquet are $150.
