Apigian Wins City Council Seat

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich.—Ned Apigian of Dearborn Heights retained his City Council seat following the Nov. 8 elections, for a four-year term beginning on Jan. 1, 2012.

In 2010, Apigian came in first in the primary election, qualifying for the general election cycle, where he came in first for an unexpired term on an open seat. Apigian assumed the office on Nov. 3 2010 to complete the unexpired 14-month term until Dec. 31, 2011. “Ned’s Seat,” along with two others from the seven total City Council seats, were up for election in 2011 for four-year terms. As there were less than six candidates, primary elections weren’t held.

Apigian is a former AYF-er, a four-term ARF CC member, and a member of the Board of Directors of Camp Haiastan. In Detroit, he’s a member of the ARF “Azadamard” Gomideh, the Board of Directors of the Armenian Community Center of Greater Detroit, the Board of Directors of the Armenian Senior Citizens Tower of Greater Detroit; and the St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church. He is also chairman of the ANC of Michigan and was the national chairman of the committee commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Hairenik Press in 2000.
