Kardashian Upset at Turkish Cosmo Cover

LOS ANGELES—Reality star and celebrity Kim Kardashian is upset over the use of her photo on the cover of the Turkish edition of Cosmopolitan magazine, reported the entertainment website TMZ on Monday.

The cover of the most recent Turkish edition of Cosmopolitan magazine.

According to the site, Kardashian was unaware that her picture would be published on the cover of the Turkish Cosmo, especially so close to April 24th and the 96th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

The pictures were from an international photo shoot and were used by several editions of Cosmo, reported TMZ, adding that the magazine did not inform Kardashian or her representatives that the photos would appear in the Turkish edition.

“It’s disrespectful to Kim Kardashian and to all Armenians for the publishers of Cosmopolitan to use her image, without her permission, on the month we mark Turkey’s genocide against the Armenian people,” the executive director of the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA), Aram Hamparian told TMZ.

“Instead of trying to turn a profit in Turkey by callously featuring a cover photo of a descendant of Armenian Genocide survivors in its April issue, Cosmopolitan should find creative ways to educate its readers about the Turkish government’s shameful effort to cover up this atrocity,” continued Hamparian.

Lending his outrage was LA-based lawyer Mark Geragos, saying, “it’s another example of the Turks rubbing salt in the wound of the Armenian people,” reported TMZ.

Geragos, who according to TMZ is Kardashian’s friend, said that Turkey is on a campaign to “co-opt” LA icons. “The Turks used Kobe Bryant’s image to promote Turkish Airlines, and now Kim.”

Cosmo could not be reached for comment.

  1. Now that they’ve published it, I suspect they will have to pay her for using it, as they did Kobe, or else the lawsuits are already being drawn up. However, instead of outrage, perhaps the message to Turkey actually is that Armenians are alive and well and beautiful?  Is that not possible, as well?

  2. This is her MO.   Like when the Playboy came out and she was topless, she was crying, oh, I didn’t intend for it to be topless.  Then the cover of W came out with her nude and she is crying again, Oh, I didn’t know it would be nude (then why did you pose it the nude?)  In this case, I would bet that she took the photos and signed some contract that said you can use this worldwide in any version of Cosmo, she probably didn’t think about the Turkey thing. It came out, she got flack, and made these statements.  No lawsuit will come of this because she undoubtedly signed the rights to use it away.

  3. Did she remember about it last year when she threw birthday party for her sister Kourtney Kardashian at Wet Republic in Las Vegas on APRIL 24 even though her sister’s birthday is really only on the 18th of April??????????  She probably just learned about it this year, ah?

  4. For once, I think people are over-reacting. Sure Turkey will often go to great lengths to rub salt in wounds, but I don’t think this is an example of it.

  5. Where are the spin doctors?  We should be proud that a world famous, Armenian beauty and entrepreneur, will be displayed all over Turkey, in April, despite their best efforts to annihilate us 96 years ago.  What an opportunity to say we are still here and thriving and even a spoiled rich Armenian girl from LA has not forgotten what happened in 1915!  Let the ultra-nationalist Turks chew on that for a while.

  6. Well… not surprised at all… Turkey finds every avenue to stir everyone away from Genocide Recognition.. and this may be one of their tactics… telling the world..”look if we are soo bad to Armenians, why would we display an Armenian on one of our top selling magazines…”….

  7. Turks surprised how Kardashian grandfather did get away from genocide!! May be they are trying to blame that stupid Turkish Gendarme, who did a poor job during annihilation of Armenians? What is your opinion Robert??

  8. I guess our navel-gazers still didn’t take notice of the following piece that appeared on April 12, almost at the same time that “The Armenian Weekly” posted Kim Kardashian’ outrage, since I haven’t see either another piece in the “Weekly” or any comment in this thread. Perhaps the ANCA and/or Mark Geragos would also like to say a few words on this one too…

Kim K Lines Up NEW Photo Shoot w/ Cosmo
4/12/2011 1:00 AM PDT by TMZ Staff
Kim Kardashian is a woman of forgiveness — TMZ has learned she’s already agreed to do a brand new photo shoot for Cosmo … putting aside her problems with the mag after they splashed her picture on the cover of the Turkish version.

Sources close to Kim tell us she struggled with the decision to work with Cosmo again — because even though she has an “amazing relationship” with the magazine … she’s very passionate about her Armenian heritage.

Kim was upset because Cosmo didn’t ask her permission to run the controversial cover — it’s controversial because Kim is Armenian and the Turks committed genocide against her people nearly 100 years ago … and still refuse to acknowledge it.

Fact is, Kim didn’t even know about the Turkish magazine cover until TMZ posted it yesterday.

We’re told Kim’s team and Cosmo talked things out Monday and Kim decided to let bygones be bygones … and another photo shoot could take place as early as this week.

  9. What’s the point of writing any kind of a response post if the editorial board continues to censor and delete 95% of what I write for posting!!!
