Ignoring Armenia’s existential problems, Pashinyan speaks wrongly about the Diaspora

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met on June 19 with a group of Diaspora Armenians who worked as temporary staff members at various ministries in Armenia. During his remarks to the group, the prime minister deviated from the subject matter and made senseless statements about the Diaspora. He said that “...

  1. Wikipedia (and other) estimates for the Armenian World Population, while legitimate, represent the rockbottom lowest possible number of Armenians worldwide.

We need look no further than American (US) Census estimates to see why: The US Census traditionally identifies Armenians as White. Because “White” bundles together multiple nationalities (including Armenians), many Armenians identify as White (in the US Census Questionnaire), instead of as Armenian. But, even those people see themselves as Diaspora Armenian Americans.

As a point of reference, I’m in the San Francisco Bay Area. About 25 years ago, I started using a double identity reference point. I checkmark the “White” Box, and also the “Other” Box. By the Other Box I write in “Armenian”. I’m sure that some Diaspora Armenians only identify themselves as “White” or “MENA”. Only my maternal ancestry is Armenian (ie, Half Armenian and Half Germanic), but my Armenian Heritage remains fundamental to my identity.

Many assimilated Half-Blood Armenian Americans are veiled and unseen can only be estimated, despite that their Armenian identity remains noteworthy. Many peripherally diaspora Armenians have been lost, because diaspora Armenian Communities failed dismally.

    1. “… but my Armenian Heritage remains fundamental to my identity.”

Same here. I identify as Armenian American as well. A person doesn’t have to have an Armenian surname to be Armenian. In my case, my grandma married an American guy, but we didn’t adopt mainstream white American culture at all. My dad identified Armenian. After watching my dad suffer during my childhood, I completely spurn everything about white culture (esp. Conservative white evangelical Christian culture). I’ve had to explain to both white and black Americans that Armenian culture is very different than what is accepted as American white culture. For one, I enjoy the fact of having a very personal family connection to Biblical history.

Mr. Nikol Pashinyan would do well to never ever question an American’s chosen identification. If he ever questioned my Armenian background, I’ll be quoting the last part of Isaiah 54:17 in his face, “… every tongue that lies about me will be shown to be in the wrong…” Jesus will prove my Armenian-ness to him and to anyone else who questions me.

  2. Why is the total number so important all of a sudden? What is the total number of Russians in the world, do we know? I don’t. Anyway, since when is wikipedia a source of wisdom.

  3. The Photo of the above article tells everything about PM Nicole Pashinyan and his supporters as follow.
1-the PM Nicole is seating at the center of his supporters/followers as the Chief of the Tribe to convey and impose his orders.

2-The seating arrangement of the followers are to listen Chief Nicole only, because they are not seating around round table to interact with each other.

3-it is obvious that PM Nikole has no subject to discuss and argue other than to impose on his followers/Ministers, Armenian people and Armenia HIS OPINIONS and his foreign contributors’ ‘advises’ as the above Article is proofing.

In conclusion: The Ministers/parliamentarians must tap on PM Nikole shoulder and tell him that his time is up and to start new approach with real democratic process for the sake of all Armenians and Armenia because PM Nicole’s approach is self destructing in many ways.
