DETROIT, Michigan—They say the third time’s a charm. On June 10, the Hamazkayin Armenian Educational & Cultural Society of Detroit hosted a highly-anticipated comedy show that left the audience in fits of laughter. After facing multiple delays, the event finally took place at the Schoolcraft College Vistatech Auditorium, attracting an audience of 150.
Originally scheduled for May 2020, the comedy show faced its first setback when the pandemic brought the world to a halt. Like many other events, it had to be postponed indefinitely. The second scheduled date in September 2022 also had to be pushed back due to the tensions in Artsakh and the fear of a potential second war in Armenia.
However, despite the challenges faced along the way, Hamazkayin Detroit was determined to provide the community with an unforgettable evening of entertainment. Finally, on this June night, comedy enthusiasts were treated to a sensational performance by two talented young Armenian comedians: Ant!c and Mary Basmadjian.
The show kicked off with Basmadjian taking the stage, effortlessly engaging the audience with her witty and clever observations about Armenians and life at Armenian homes. With her relatable humor, Mary seamlessly connected with the crowd, delivering a performance that was both entertaining and thought-provoking.
Then Ant!c took center stage, charming the audience with his unique brand of humor. His ability to find humor in everyday situations and his candid storytelling captivated the audience, leaving a lasting impression.
The last act was Vartoush, Basmadjian’s alter-ego. With her infectious energy and sharp comedic timing, Vartoush had the crowd roaring with laughter throughout her set, as she interacted with audience members and put them in the spotlight. The two-hour show was a rollercoaster ride of laughter and entertainment. The comedic duo proved to be a perfect blend of talent, chemistry and stage presence, providing an unforgettable evening for all.
After the show, guests had the opportunity to interact with the comedians, taking pictures and collecting autographs. The audience’s warmth and appreciation were evident as they expressed their delight at the hilarious performance and the opportunity to meet Ant!c and Basmadjian in person.
The Detroit Hamazkayin was elated to host Comedy Night, both to entertain the community and to support two young Armenian artists by putting them on stage in Detroit.
