Armenia Alliance condemns actions against Robert Kocharyan and his family

The Armenia Alliance released a statement Aug. 25, 2026, condemning the actions taken against its leader, Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan, and members of his family. The opposition bloc characterized the proceedings as politically motivated and accused the government of using state institutions to intimidate its opponents and eliminate centers of resistance.

Read the full statement below:

“The unlawful actions being carried out against Armenia’s second president, Robert Kocharyan, the leader of the Armenia Alliance, and members of his family are yet another cynical manifestation of a regime that has lost its legitimacy and maintains its hold on power exclusively through illegal means.

“This is not a legal process. It is the open subordination of the state apparatus to one individual’s political fears and desire for revenge. The security operations launched immediately after threats issued from the parliamentary podium demonstrate one thing: having accepted every external demand, the ruling regime has adopted a policy of isolating the opposition and eliminating every possible center of resistance.

“By staging cheap spectacles for its own electorate, the current government is also attempting to deepen the climate of fear within society.

“The Armenia Alliance declares:

“Addressing us through blackmail, unlawful proceedings, and fabricated prosecutions is futile.

“Neither President Kocharyan, his family nor our political team can be intimidated or forced to accept the current situation.

“We will continue our struggle and make every effort to resist the new concessions being imposed on Armenia.

“No dictatorship lasts forever, and those responsible for ordering and carrying out these unlawful actions will be held accountable.”
