Since 1994, with the “paralysis” of the OSCE-Minsk group, nothing has changed. The stand still continues and it will continue until the “Madrid Principles” are set aside.The “Madrid Principles” are one sided; It cannot be the basis of a settlement that is acceptable to Armenia or more importantly to Atsakh.
It is an absolute reality that P.M. Pashinian cannot negotiate on Artsakh’s behalf.
In my personal humble opinion, the real positive was that Pashinian did not give up an inch and did not yield to the pressures of the members of the OSCE-Minsk group.
The Azeris cannot be trusted period.

There is absolutely know reason for Aliyev to concede in these negotiations. First off, he is going to lose land that he feels he has been advertising to the Azeri people as part of Azerbaijan. Secondly, he knows the negotiations will end up with him losing Artsakh. Third, and the main reason, he doesn’t want that land. He rather have Armenia keep it and keep this contentious position of constant warfare. If you recall during the April conflicts, Aliyev attacked Armenian positions the weekend prior to when the Panama Leaks were releasing information on him stealing billions of dollars from his country to establish gold mining projects for his personal wealth. Artsakh conflict is a deflection for him. Economy was struggling due to dropped oil prices and Panama Leaks and rights issues where media members are jailed, public starts to outcry, oh, wait, here is the Artsakh conflict again. Go hate the Armenians for our problems. Deflection. The perfect deflection. Aliyev doesn’t want that land.

I cannot stress the importance of your point. There is a reason why Turkic nationalism is very strong in Azerbaijan, unlike the other Turkic nations in Central Asia. And that has a lot to do with Armenia. When I lived in Turkmenistan in the late 2000s there was almost no knowledge of a greater Turan in the population, but that is the exact opposite case in Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan has nor legal neither Historical status in the area! The entire land of Azerbaijan was part of the Armenian Empire of Urartu. If this Nation and country came to existence it was partly from John Hyrcanus who exiled from the territories of modern Israel many people who refused to convert to Judaism. The name Hyrcanus was given to him becauase it was Hyrcania (Territory on the Southern of Caspian Sea), where he banished all those people who refused to became converted to Judaism. Afterwards these refuges found many kingdoms around including Caucasian Alabania that occupied the territory of todays Azerbaijan and Nothern Dagestan. The very name Azerbaijan as many Azeris Nationalists take pride for, derives from Usher the 13th son of Jacob in the Bible. In this essence their country must be somewhere in the Middle East arround the teritories of ancient Galilea were John Hyrcanus reigned and exilled them from there. In the end of the day what sort of bussiness do they have with the Armenian land to demand to acquire Armenian territories for “peace or status”? They already occupy foreign land that have to preserve and logicaqlly should have been content with it!
Up until 1918 there was no such thing the Republic of Azerbaijan. It was the creation of Stalin. When the Russians won the 1826-1828 Russo-Persia war, the victorious Russians forced the Persians to sign the Turkmanchay Treaty, in Torkomanchay, Iran ( hence the name of the treaty ). By signing the treaty, Persia ceded most of the Trancaucasian regions to the Russians. Shirvan, Iran was one of that region. In 1918, under the orders of Joseph Stalin, Shirvan became the Republic of Azerbaijan. In today’s day and age, only one authentic Azerbaijan exists and that is the 31st Province of today’s Iran, located South of today’s Fake Republic of Azerbaijan. So, having said that, when these EU, US and the OSCE members say , “we need to prepare the people of Artsakh and Azerbaijan for peace”, my answer is, Screw you, go study the history of the region and, “prepare yourselves” for knowledge exam. These people are perfectly willing to give up our lands for their self interest; flow of oil and gas from Azeri oilfields, through Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline into European markets.
