Kim Kardashian Urges Support for Telethon

LOS ANGELES, Calif.—Kim Kardashian is rallying support for the ANCA Telethon as part of her ongoing commitment to secure international recognition of the Armenian Genocide as an important step toward ending the cycle of genocide overall, reported the ANCA Endowment Fund.

The ANCA Telethon will be broadcast live on May 20

In a public service announcement set to officially debut this Sunday during the ANCA Telethon, Kardashian explains, “As we witness injustice in today’s world and we all strive to eradicate violence and mass killings everywhere, I’ve been doing what’s right and doing my share in bringing recognition to the Armenian Genocide.  Mankind must recognize genocides of the past for what they are so that we can stop them from reoccurring in the future; that’s why I’m supporting the ANCA Telethon and contributing to it.”  Kardashian goes on to ask viewers and supporters to “join your voice and your effort to mine and do share and donate generously to this telethon.”

The ANCA Telethon will be broadcast live on Sun., May 20 from 2-8 p.m. PDT (5-11 p.m. EDT) in major U.S. markets that cater to the over 1.5 million Armenian Americans across the U.S., including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, New York, and Washington, DC .  The program will be streamed live online on http://www.ancatelethon.org/live.

“We applaud Kim Kardashian for her ongoing commitment to international recognition of the Armenian Genocide and are so very proud of her principled support, as an Armenian, for ending forever the cycle of genocide against all peoples,” said ANCA Endowment President Ken Hachikian.  “With Kim’s support, and the backing of Armenian Americans from coast to coast, we look forward to a successful telethon and to taking our work for truth and justice to a new level.”

Kardashian has been outspoken in her calls for officials U.S. affirmation of the Armenian Genocide, posting blog notes and tweeting to her fans annually on April 24th, the worldwide commemoration of this crime.  In an April 24, 2011 tweet, Kardashian was clear and concise: “It’s time to recognize the Armenian Genocide http://bit.ly/dV7c7b

In 2010, Kardashian called on Speaker Pelosi to schedule a vote on H.Res.252, the Armenian Genocide Resolution. In that message, she said, “It’s time for America to speak openly and honestly about this horrible crime against humanity, and the only way this will happen is if we speak up first.”

The ANCA Endowment Fund supports a broad range of educational, youth, and civic programs that give voice to the views and values of the Armenian American community, strengthening our presence in the American civic arena, and empowering pro-Armenian stakeholders with the information and resources they need to take on the powerful forces aligned against the Armenian nation.

The first two ANCA Endowment Fund Telethons, held in 2006 and 2009, raised over $4.5 million for Armenian American educational, youth, and civic programs. Both programs touched a common emotional chord, speaking directly to the devotion to the Armenian Cause that rests in the hearts of Armenians from across the U.S., regardless of organizational or political affiliations.

Countless organizations, volunteers, churches, community leaders, local ANCAs, performing artists, Members of Congress, and state legislators from across the nation participated in the telethons, contributing to their enormous success. Both telethons featured several documentaries that highlighted various ANCA programs and numerous results the ANCA Endowment has achieved over the years, largely through its volunteer and grassroots network.

  1. Few,if any at all understand the power of MASS MEDIA COVERAGE…
and that at a NO COST ,no fuss basis. She and her sister Khloe HAVE DONE IT. Kudos!!! to these gals!!!!
Armenians have a lot to learn that today if you just go near those Advertising Agencies they will charge you mony…
This here ,we ´re talking of millions of dollars …..free o charge to us…
Those who grasp the importance of the MEDIA in a country such as the US know that they have done well for Armenity and Armenia and Diaspora Armenia(s) whom hardly a 5% of the locals(Americans ) know…some may think Armenia is Romania or Albania or some such obscure E.Euro country.Armenians? what are Armenians?????
Turkey? oh yes important Nato Ally …

    • Suren, I hope your reluctance to support her doesn’t have anything to do with being a woman because throughout the entire Mid. East (and your region) men have failed monumentally to bring peace and prosperity “home”.
Most of the problems (and lack of solutions) in Armenia I blame on one person-your Justice Minister. Where was he when villagers were being evicted for mining interests and corrupt politicians, men murder their lovely wives (with the help of their mother), voters are bribed and elections rigged (wait until you see how “messy” our upcoming US elections will be), Mayors seize the peoples Park for friends (congratulations to those brave freedom loving Armenians who “took back” Mashtots(?) Park – i’ve read with the intervention from your President-to his credit), Azeris use weapons (supplied by people who are supposedly our allies), to kill Armenian Soldiers peacefully defending a border, an unrepentant genocidal neighbouring NATO member is armed “to the teeth” threatening Armenian (and Russian) security and “Iranian Armenians” firebomb other citizens peacefully assembling and exercising their Constitutional rights (even if you can’t accept their beliefs)?
Does anyone know where these criminals are, what (if any) relationship they have with the Iranian regime or what they even look like? I predict they will never be brought to justice in Armenia and it (firebombing) may have been a terrorist attack.
If Kim, or any other intelligent and caring woman, would like to take that Justice Ministers job, (and I’m not judging the man in that position-only his inaction), I would support it. The only thing men can “deliver” at this point is more War-we’ve failed.
The women are the ones who send their babies to War (and have to bury them).
What have you got to lose by making them full citizens with all the privileges, protection, rights and contributions they could make to your society?
Armenia, a fledgling, distressed, Democracy, with a fine Constitution (I was shocked to read), gives you even more Rights than our own beloved US Constitution. That’s impressive.
      Thanks for caring, Kim.

  2. It truly means a lot to have Kim’s support! I urge those who judge her to actually do something with their lives because she does so much for the community!

  3. I believe everything posted was actually very reasonable.
But, what about this? suppose you were to write a killer headline?

I mean, I don’t wish to tell you how to run
your blog, however suppose you added a headline that makes people want more?
I mean Kim Kardashian Urges Support for Telethon | Armenian
Weekly is kinda vanilla. You should glance at Yahoo’s home page
and note how they write article titles to get viewers
to open the links. You might try adding a video or a pic or two to grab readers interested about
what you’ve got to say. Just my opinion, it could bring your
blog a little bit more interesting.
