‘Prometheus Bound’ Features Music by Serj Tankian

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (A.W.)—The theatrical presentation of “Prometheus Bound,” directed by the American Repertory Theater’s (A.R.T.) artistic director Diane Paulus, will feature music composed by Serj Tankian. The show will last from Feb. 25 to April 2.

Tankian composed the music exclusively for “Prometheus Bound.” Steven Sater wrote the script and lyrics. The story is written by Aeschylus and it tells the myth of Prometheus, a Titan who gave fire to mankind, and was punished for it by Zeus.

This A.R.T. production is in partnership with Amnesty International (AI) in dedication to eight amnesty actions to free prisoners of conscience. As part of AI’s efforts, letters will be collected and post-show demonstrations will be held to demand equal rights for all.

Tankian is the lead singer of the Grammy Award-winning band “System of a Down.” Currently he is pursuing a solo-career. He recently released two albums, “Imperfect Harmonies” and “Elect the Dead.” In 2002, together with Tom Morello of “Rage Against the Machine,” he co-founded Axis of Justice, a non-profit organization that musicians and music lovers to fight for social justice.

Sater is a Tony and Grammy Award-winning writer. He has authored books, plays, and lyrics, earning various awards. He is currently working on a new musical with Burt Bacharach.

This is a PG-13 production. It lasts 80 minutes with no intermission. Tickets start at $25, $15 for students, with a $5 discount for seniors. On Feb. 28 and March 2, audience members will have the opportunity to meet Tankian and Sater in OBERON theater’s lobby, after the show.
