Poetry Reading in Newburyport
MARCH 13, 2010 * POWOW RIVER POETS READING SERIES. With award-winning and widely published New England poets Diana Der-Hovanessian and Alfred Nicol. An Open Mic follows the reading. Der-Hovanessian, the author of more than 23 books of poetry and translations, is president of the New England Poetry Club. Her poems have appeared in Agni, American Poetry Review, Ararat, CSM, Poetry, Partisan, Prairie Schooner, the Nation, and numerous anthologies, and she has won awards and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and Poetry Society of America, among other honors. Nicol received the 2004 Richard Wilbur Award for his first book of poems, Winter Light. His new book, Elegy for Everyone, was chosen for the first Anita Dorn Memorial Prize and will be published in 2010. His poems have appeared in Poetry, the Hopkins Review, the Dark Horse, the Flea, First Things, and numerous other journals and anthologies. Other honors include the New England Poetry Club Daniel Varoujan and Firman Houghton Awards. Begins at 3 p.m. at the Jabberwocky Bookshop, 50 Water St. in Newburyport, Mass.
