Pan-Homenetmen Games Conclude in Yerevan

YEREVAN—The 8th Pan Homenetmen Games, which took place in Armenia for the first time, concluded on Sat., Aug. 8 with an impressive closing ceremonies at the Dynamo stadium.

The ceremonies featured the more than 550 athletes from around the world who had come to Armenia to compete. It was also attended by Armenia’s representative to the Olympics Committee, as well as leaders of the Homenetmen.

The final results of the games are below.

Soccer
1- Western U.S.
2- France
3- Lebanon
The final soccer match at the Vazgen Sargsyan Stadium went into overtime, with the Western U.S. team scoring the last goal against France, and ending the game with a final score of 3-2. The Lebanon team beat the Eastern U.S. team 4-1, earning it the third place title.

Basketball (Men’s)
1- Western U.S.
2- Eastern U.S.
3- Canada

Basketball (Women’s)
1- Syria
2- Tehran’s Ararat Cultural Association
3- Western U.S.

Basketball (Juniors)
1- Western U.S.
2- Lebanon

The Western U.S. was the ping-pong champion, with the team from Bulgaria also winning a medal.

The Homenetmen Armenia scouts won the chess competition, while the Western U.S. swimmers won medals in the swimming competition. The top athlete award went to swimmer Vatche Kazandjian, who won nine gold and one silver medal.

The Western U.S. team won the most medals and was awarded the Armenian National Olympics Committee rotating cup. The Homenetmen Western U.S. representatives passed the cup to Armenia’s Olympic weightlifting champion, Ogsen Mirzoyan.
