  2. Translation of the previous comment by Levon Sharoyan

Nowadays anyone concerned about Aleppo Armenians is poised to ask, “What will happen to our schools in Aleppo, will they be able to continue on with their mission?” The reality is alarming of course

The state of war in the country, the sharp economic crisis, the insecurity and especially the relentless bombing (and the resultant rampant destruction because of them) are causing havoc and sweeping us onto dustbins.

Our educational cradles are not spared of course. The state of the Armenian schools in Aleppo is far from being rosy.

The Karen Yeppe Jemaran (Քարէն Եփփէ Ճեմարան) of Nor Kyugh and the two national elementary schools, Sahagian (Սահակեան) and Zavarian (Զաւարեան), have been forced out from their buildings and their neighborhoods.

After sustaining heavy damages the Gigligian School (Կիլիկեան Ճեմարան) has also been forced out of its building for the third year in a row.

The state of Haygazian, (Ազգ. Հայկազեան վարժարան), School is no better either. Much like its adjoining Forty Martyrs Cathedral (Ս. Քառասուն Մանկանց մայր տաճար), is closed for the third year in a row.

Lamentable is the state of Mekhitarian (Մխիթարեան) School. It has lost the enrollment of most of its students.

The community is dwindling and is melting away. The emigration is scattering the Aleppo Armenians to foreign far away unknown places. The school superintendents are doing their upmost to recruit teachers, to close the budget, to look for supporters.

Budgeting considerations for the present, 2014-2015, academic year forced four Armenian elementary schools to close ranks and unite under one roof under a National kindergarten (ԱԶԳ. ՄԱՆԿԱՊԱՐՏԷԶ).
That is all good, our people will take the new school at heart.

What about our primary schools? Will they also close rank and unite under one roof? That prospect tears my eyes. Could you come to grips with the prospect of losing the Haigazian Armenian School? Can we possibly erase the memory of the late Catholicos of Blessed Memory Sahag the Second and lose the school named after him? Could you possibly reconcile with the loss of Zavarian School?

Help Aleppo all you can ! Levon Sharoyan
