Meet 11-year-old singer-songwriter Darren Chilingirian

11-year-old Darren Chilingirian, whose stage name is Darren Chillin, loves to entertain. He can sing, play the guitar and piano and write songs. He also loves spending time with his family and playing video games and basketball.

“I began singing when I was just four while playing my little red guitar. The song was called ‘Im Pokrik Navak.’ I enjoyed grabbing my guitar and playing a little tune. I also remember singing ‘You Raise Me Up’ by Josh Groban when I was about the same age. Then, one day, my parents saw something — a spark inside of me — and they started helping with my journey to make my dreams come true, step by step,” Chilingirian told the Weekly.

“I can see myself performing in front of thousands of people live, singing my original songs and enjoying the crowd cheering while they have a great time. When I finish my performance, I will give a nice bow and the crowd will go wild! That is my big dream,” he said.

Chilingirian enjoys a mix of rock, country, blues and pop. “Each genre has something cool about it. Pop is fun and catchy, rock has great energy, country tells awesome stories and blues has so much soul. I enjoy listening to and playing all of them,” Chilingirian said.

When asked who inspires him, Chilingirian shared, “I have a lot of inspiration when it comes to music. Ed Sheeran is one of my favorites. I love how his songs tell stories, and I even met him in person last summer, which was so cool! I also really like OneRepublic, because their music is so creative, and their lyrics are awesome. Bruno Mars excites me about performing because he’s so energetic on stage. And Josh Groban’s voice is amazing. He connects with people when he sings. All of these artists inspire me in different ways and I try to learn from them as I work on my music and performances.”

“I loved working on my new original single ‘Earth To Mars,’ which you can check out on Spotify and Apple Music. I also had a blast shooting the video for my Armenian single ‘Mayr Hayastan’ in Armenia last summer. Performing on stage at Armenian galas, farmers’ markets, Chamlian Armenian School Cultural Day and many other events has been amazing. When I first stepped on stage, seeing the smiles in the crowd made me so happy. But my absolute favorite part is all the hard work my family and I put in. Even though we work hard, we get to spend time together as a family — and that’s the best part!” Chilingirian said.
