Jennifer Lopez Cancels Northern Cyprus Trip

On the evening of July 8, a statement was posted on Jennifer Lopez’s official website announcing the cancellation of her upcoming trip to Northern Cyprus.

Jennifer Lopez

The statement read: “Jennifer Lopez would never knowingly support any state, country, institution or regime that was associated with any form of human rights abuse. After a full review of the relevant circumstances in Cyprus, it was the decision of her advisors to withdraw from the appearance. This was a team decision that reflects our sensitivity to the political realities of the region.”

Cypriot organizations were asking the public to call, fax, or email the William Morris Agency in New York, which represents Lopez, in an effort to urge her “not to visit Turkish-occupied Cyprus.”

Lopez was expected to arrive in Cyprus on July 20, which marks the 36th anniversary of the illegal Turkish military invasion of Cyprus. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will inaugurate the hotel, according to Hurriyet newspaper.

According to reports, Lopez was to be paid $3 million to celebrate the anniversary.

  1. Congratulations to Jennifer Lopez and her staff for not going to Turkish occupied Cypress. Until Cypress is returned back to Southern Cypress by the Turks there will be no peace between Greeks & Turks. Turkey, as recorded by Amnesty International has the worst Human Rights Violations in the world.

  2. I applaud J-Lo and her Agent for not going to Turk occupied Cypress. The world needs to know about the injustice and what the Turkish gov did to us Greeks almost 4 decades ago.

  3. Jennifer, you have achieved what our president and foreign secretary, who both have privately criticised the Turkish government past and present, did not have the guts to stand by their convictions and blame them politically for what Turkey stands for.Best wishes to you and God will be with you.

  4. I LOVE JEN…. and I love her even more for siding with what we call and fight for:  “Human Rights” … by not falling in the same trap as our govt officials…the trap in the money and attention hungry Turkish tactics, she basically showed our President and everyone else who praises Turkey who continueously violate human rights act.. that no one and especially our human rights can’t be bought no matter how much money or power one may gain from it..

BRAVO.. I applaud you Jen, your agent and everyone involved to make this happen…

  5. I don’t care about Jennifer Lopez but I have to correct Stephen T. Dulgarian. Number of reports by Amnesty International doesn’t mean anything. Some countries don’t even let AI to operate in their countries. AI has offices in Turkey. They can monitor everything. They said, number of reports are not for comparison, they just report everything they can find.

  6. Emre,
Turks will never quit for the lies and forging the news..
Story of J-Lo closed and now looking for another one… Turkey will never become civilized nation as long as blind people like you ignore the facts of international observers..
Ask your government to fix Kurdish problems and respect human right issues such as  persecution of “secret Christian” societies of Turkey, stop harassing media, and individuals who are criticizing, Turkish “unjust” justice system, who see only Ataturk philosophies, abolish famous penal code 301, stop Ergenoken activities inside and outside of Turkey…there is a lot of forbidden unjust secrets kept in archives of  Turkish government, such as the truth of Armenian Genocide, that even ordinary Turkish society never heard of it..

  7. Are you Turkish Emre?  If you are, doesn’t it bother you that Turkey keeps providing abuses for AI to report?  Instead of trying to rationalize a way to disregard the AI record in Turkey, why wouldn’t you be more concerned that something appears to be wrong in your country?  Where is the ability for truthful, undefensive appraisal of Turkish society?

  8. Dear Jen,
I am sure you have had countless threats against your life from the people who don’t want to you to get inside NCTR, therefore as a woman having a family, you did the right thing. We didn’t force you to get in, but they forced you not to.
Otherwise, including the U.S., many countries in the world where you had concerts, have been “associated with any form of human rights abuse”.
Because of that, the statement of your team, will be used from now on, on any concert you will do in the World. I am wondering where on Earth you will find a country not “associated with any form of human rights abuse”.
And I would just laugh out loud if you do a concert in Serbia!
I suggest you to be neutral Jen and don’t take sides again. You would never know who is right in these kinds of fragile issues.
    Regards.

  9. she is just an uneducated, unschooled, ignorant singer. she can’t even point cyprus on the map let alone have the knowledge of the history. preposterous

  10. Shame on you Jennifer Lopez, Greek propaganda has convinced everyone that the Turkish army invaded northern Cyprus, this is not the case, they went to the north to stop genocide by the Greek Cypriots and to enforce the guarantee of independence of Cyprus.
Turkey may not be perfect but then what country is, I take note of the Greeks on the streets of Athens recently, very civilised!!
It seems to me that the Turkish army will never leave Northern Cyprus as long as there are the idiots on both sides who perpetuate this nonsense. And in the vast majority of cases it is the Greeks who do not want unity of the island unless all the Turks are dead. This is even more shameful.

  11. To the Editorial Board:

Where is my post? The one I place a day or two ago! It had nothing to do with you people, since we all know that’s what terrifies you all! As usual, once again you show your cowardly yellow streak running down all of your backs! That post meant a lot and you simply robbed me…AGAIN!

Please visit the Turkish Forum to see and thus learn how a REAL site is operated and conducted without bias! Your friend JDA is there all of the time, even though he always gets his ass kicked repeatedly! But everyone of his and any other opposing posts are allowed to remain, no matter how derogetory they may be.

Your severe Turkophobia is getting the better of you!

  12. J-Lo’s as well as William Morris Agency’s smart decision is very much appreciated by the people that stand for ensuring International Human Rights. Really, it is a position that deserves RESPECT !!!
p.s. Human Rights vs. $3 million !!! Very hard to hold such decision.

  13. George.. it seems you have not studied your history well.. THE TRUE HISTORY of your country and ancestry… and everything else Turkish govt represent and their capability of evil and destruction..

It is unfortunate that you have been fed lies and faslified information..it is not your fault… and to think that TUrks are the victims, and that everyone else are idiots to say that Turkey is vicious and always occupy lands and territories that don’t belong to them.. are you for real? get a true sense of your history.. i assume you are a Turk right?

  14. Jennifer Lopez knows better than to waste her breath in front of a complete sorry reason for a Nation. Thanks Jennifer for being a true human being and standing up for yourself,. I’ll be at your next show.

How does it feel to have your money trown in your face Turkey!!! LMAO

  15. it seems this blog is for a majority of uneducated people to think that the greeks are the victims of history 1. it was the greeks attacking turks 2. it was the greeks wanted to annexe cyprus to greece 3. for years the turks were bullied. but the minute the bully got his comeuppance they ran away, you had a chance to put it right, and you still refused to behave, well now its never going to change, unless there is another war. THEN YOU WILL GET KICKED OUT, and cyprus will be 100% turkish.

  16. Boyajian. I always criticize human rights abuses in Turkey. But he said Turkey has the worst human rights record according to Amnesty International. This is definitely wrong. Why shouldn’t I correct it. I’m not a brainwashed nationalist. I always support Turkish-Armenian reconciliation. I’m actually doing a favor because when you claim something false, you weaken your other arguments.

  17. Mussyboy:
So let me get this straight. When, from yuor perspective the Turks in Cyprus get pushed around and eventually fight back, it is justfied. When the Armenians take abuse from the Turks over successive regime and decide to defend themselves against these atrocities, we are called “rebels and disloyal” You’re very lucky. Nobody commited genocide against you because of your presence/

  18. Stepan jan.. I agree with you but then again we both know that Mussyboy messedup his/her stories… This person is definintely genocidal when speaking kicking out, war, and 100% Turks..

Along the same line… Robert thinks he is God All Mighty that whatever he says has to be published and everyone needs to see… Frankly Robert. id on’t give a damn what you say because i already know how you think and what you represent… so please don’t act like you had something important to say..we see what you say on these pages.. and you arelucky we did not KICK YOUR ASS from here…and you know why?  Armenians are not violent and we don’t kick people out like your Turkish sites do…

Have a wonderful evening ROBERT and all your friends who post on these pages.. Unfortunately you and your entourage don’t know what you are talking about.. i am sorry but it is true……because all I see and read from you and your friends are defensive and angry remarks.. not a good way of showing the Modern Turkish state’s stance of moving toward more democratic and civilized country..

  19. Good JOB JLO, I WISH there more more artists like her, instead of kissing ass to Turkey and taking bribes from them.

But i’ve noticed that Turkey has been promoting itself by using American and European stars/royality people and media.

And it’s terrible that fellow Christian/Catholic are selling others out for their own money gain. Shame….

  20. With a name like Emre? What else?
Good girl, Jennifer. It reminds me of when Antonio Banderas pulled out of playing Ataturk in a film of The Grey Wolf’s life.

  21. … actually it more correct to say a pink wolve’s life – isn’t that why they banned youtube in Turkey – the truth was getting out

  22. Ataturk was called the Grey Wolf…at least according to Lord Kinross in his very famous biography of the dude.

  23. George , the thinks u say is all shit and u know it what bothers u if we kill each other? What would u feel if i would come by force and take over ur house ur property sent u away and then u find out that all ur family was killed in its house and thats a true story my grandmothers story. u dont know what to say to hurt J-Lo and just because she doesnt know everything it doesnt meen U should hurt her and try to make her feel bad. she made her desitions.
