In memory of Marguerite “Peggy” Sarkisian Bargamian
Marguerite “Peggy” Sarkisian Bargamian, of Waltham, passed away Aug. 6, 2026.
Peggy was the beloved wife of the late Levon “Leo” Sarkisian and the devoted mother of Christopher Sarkisian and David Sarkisian and his wife, Jennifer. She was the cherished sister of Lucy Sisoian and aunt of Paul Sisoian. Peggy also is survived by many loving cousins and extended family members.
Peggy grew up in North Providence, Rhode Island, and attended Rhode Island College. She later attended Harvard University, where she earned a master’s degree in education with a focus on guidance. She dedicated her professional life to education, working as a teacher and guidance counselor in Rhode Island, Indiana and Massachusetts. Her 15 years with Waltham Public Schools were an especially meaningful part of her career. Peggy deeply valued the people she worked with and the friendships and lasting relationships she formed with colleagues over the years. For 60 years, she made Waltham her home and became a treasured part of the community.
Throughout her life, Peggy remained deeply connected to her Armenian heritage and community. She was a lifelong member of the Armenian Youth Federation and the Armenian Relief Society, organizations that held a special place in her life and reflected her enduring commitment to Armenian life. It was through her involvement in the Armenian Youth Federation that Peggy met Leo, beginning a life together centered on family, Armenian heritage and community.
Peggy’s greatest joy was her family. She treasured time spent together, especially sharing dinners and conversation around the table. Her generous and welcoming nature made family and friends feel at home in her company. In quieter moments, Peggy often could be found with a good book. She will be remembered most for the warmth she shared, her generosity toward others and the love and devotion she gave to her family.
Funeral services will be held at St. Stephen’s Armenian Church, 38 Elton Ave., Watertown, on Thursday, Aug. 13, at noon. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the church Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to noon, immediately before the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Stephen’s Armenian Church in Peggy’s memory.
Interment will follow at Newton Cemetery, Newton.
