I can’t be the only who has been torn, internally, by the developments of the last two-three weeks in Armenia. Even writing about it is difficult because conditions are so fluid that anything valid this moment may become utterly irrelevant an hour later.
So far, I think it’s inarguable that things have gone reasonably

Poor you. Feeling torn about supporting a corrupt, dictatorial regime. Your excuses are feeble. Wanting rule of law is fair enough but doesn’t justify supporting a regime which channeled wealth to a few. That is what ARF doesn’t seem to understand; the driving force of this movement is the inequality in Armenia. 1% are rich and the rest are living in poverty. People who should be getting middle-class salaries – doctors, engineers, etc – are getting $200 per month! This has been building for 10+ years and ARF supported its continuation. What did ARF do to reduce corruption? To reduce inequality? Whatever gains you made were outweighed by the harms of supporting this illegitimate regime. You knew it was enriching oligarchs and fixing elections and yet ARF continued to support it! And your final excuse? ‘We made a commitment and had to stick to it.’ Commitments to unjust regimes are not binding. ARF should have been on the side of truth and justice. It chose otherwise and deserves its soon-to-be achieved place: the dustbin of history.
