The 1960 CBS Documentary “Harvest of Shame” exposed the grim realities of extreme poverty amongst farm workers to the American public for the first time. This is a still image from the film, in which the President of the American Farm Bureau’s Association (featured), said of the situation: “We take the position that it’s far better to have thousands of these folks, who are practically unemployable, earning some money doing some productive work for at least a few days of year.”
