AWWA Supported Health Clinic in Artsakh Helps Women, Seniors

JAMAICA PLAIN, Mass.—For over 11 years, the Armenian Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA) has funded and supported the Hanganak Health Clinic in Stepanakert, Nagorno-Karabagh Republic (NKR/Artsakh).

This clinic offers medical care and other services to mainly women, aged 63 and older, who live alone with no other means of support. Many of these women are alone because they have lost loved ones, husbands or sons, in the war with Azerbaijan in 1992. These beneficiaries receive health care, food and provisions, and an opportunity for communing with others at the Hanganak facilities.

Once again, the war between Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabagh raged for in early April. Many soldiers and civilians have been injured—and some killed—by the aggression of Azeri forces. Hanganak continues to assist older citizens whose lives have been affected by the war. The people of Karabagh are proud of their homeland and they need and deserve support.
