Poghosyan’s program, inspired by folk songs and titled “Folk Inspirations,” will include music by Edvard Grieg and Franz Liszt and will conclude with Igor Stravinsky’s “Petrouchka.”

A leading interpreter of music from her native country, Poghosyan will also perform three movements from Armenian composer Komitas Vardapet‘s (1869-1935) rarely heard work, “Six Dances for Piano” from 1906. Komitas is considered to be the founder of the Armenian National School of Music and a pioneer in ethnomusicology.

“We are thrilled to present the return of Karine Poghosyan after her all-Khachaturian recital this past September, which so impressed Chicago audiences,” said Thomas Zoells, the executive director of the PianoForte Foundation. “This is an artist that we want to hear in Chicago on a regular basis!”

Poghosyan’s CD, “Khachaturian Original Piano Works and Ballet Transcriptions” on the NAXOS label, was released in April 2015 to rave reviews. “[Poghosyan] immersed herself in the piano music of Khachaturian to such an extent that her performances have elevated music to a higher sphere,” said David Dubal, revered piano authority, author, and radio host. “I know this for certain as I have played many of these pieces and found details of inflection, rhythm, and technical prowess that I had not imagined the music possessed. This is an important debut recording and it brings to us in Karine Poghosyan’s work, a pianist that we should hear as soon as possible in recital and on disc… This is Khachaturian playing that will not be rivaled!”
