M.T. Saju

M.T. Saju, born in 1972 in Kerala, has been a journalist since 1999. He began his career with Newstime in Hyderabad, before moving to Chennai in 2000 to join the newly-launched New Sunday Express, the Sunday paper of the New Indian Express. In 2010, he joined the Chennai edition of the Times of India, where he wrote on a wide range of topics including heritage, archaeology, environment and climate change — subjects that were close to his heart and that generally suffered neglect until he left the organization in 2021. He won many accolades for his reporting which exposed many unfair practices in various government departments. In 2018, he won the REACH Heritage Award for bringing into the notice of the government and the public various heritage issues through his columns. As an independent journalist based in Thiruvananthapuram, he now contributes to leading newspapers like The Hindu, web portals like The Federal and Mongabay-India. Saju is a qualified lawyer — and is an avid traveler and photographer.
