The sad, bitter, truth is that we are unable to defend ourselves, which is why we are always looking to others to pull our chestnuts out of the fire.
I agree with the thoughts and sentiments expressed in the article. Yes, Artsakh showed the fighting Armenian spirit in 1991 but it was followed by thirty years of unwise diplomacy, and corruption of the economy and military. The Diaspora and its leaders were no less guilty when it could have used the independence of Armenia as the linchpin for creating a global Armenian nation for its own sake and in support of Armenia. The self indulgence, and lying about the true state of Armenia was perpetuated by elites in Armenia and Diaspora. But it is during these times when “our back is against the wall” that inspiring leaders and ideas emerge to keep up the fight. However, as a practical matter, this may not be the best time to confront Azerbaijan militarily if Armenia does not have the necessary forces. The build up of defense capability should be the number one priority of Armenia and Diaspora today. The second priority is not to repeat the mistakes of the past.i.e depending on Russia.
