Remembering Murad Meneshian
By Vahe H. Apelian
I recently read Knarik Meneshian’s very personal and superb tribute, “Murad’s Story.” Her story reminded me that I too have a story about Murad Meneshian to share with readers.
Readers of the Armenian Weekly may remember Murad’s superb narration of the founding of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF).

Thank you, Vahe, for such a wonderful piece. It touched my family and me deeply.
My grandmother Almas Ohnigian born in Sivas 1891 was a friend of Sepastasi Murad and would hang out with him at the ARF club in
Sivas and latter on her escape from her city again met up with him in Erzurum. She would often speak of him and would often quote the
Following on his encounter with him in Erzurum ” I knew you were short in height but didn’t realize also in brains” as at that time Erzurum
Was hell on earth. In the end she named my Dad ” Murad”
I have known The Meneshian family from Baghdad Iraq, Murad was then almost 13 years old. My real friendship was with his eldest brother Guyzag since we were teenagers. After immigrating to Toronto Canada, through a
friend I located Murad, spoke to him by phone, found that his brother Guyzag (Philosophy Professor) has passed away. God Bless Their Souls.
Herant Bablanian.
What a great patriot and Renaissance man he was, a scientist and a great writer. His book about the great novelist Raffi, indeed the ‘Prophet’ of the Armenian liberation movement was meticulously researched and highly readable.
