How Azerbaijan Distorts UN Security Council Resolutions
The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) San Fernando Valley West chapter, held an all-day conference on March 17 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabagh) Liberation Movement. The conference was held at the Ferrahian Armenian High School in Encino, Calif. and speakers included historian Garo Moumdjian, PhD; ANCA National Board Member Steven Dadaian, Esq.; Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Western U.S. Central Committee Member Levon Kirakosian, Esq.; ARF Western U.S. Central Committee Member Vache Thomassian, Esq.; and myself.
Here, I would like to present some excerpts from my remarks at the conference:

Armenians know nothing but to speak meaningless things.The UN urges Armenia to immediately withdraw armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.It’s Azerbaijan ‘s territories that have been occupied.It’s Azerbaijani population that were expelled from their native lands and became refugees and IDPS. Armenia has groundless claims against Azerbaijan.
You see world community presses on you to obey international norms and you search new ways to justify yourself but in vain.
Did you bother to read the article? It clearly illustrates how Azerbaijan has distorted in its propaganda since 1993 the context of the resolution. Also you can’t criticize the Armenians for non- compliance when Azerbaijan has violated a cease fire they requested. The violations number in the thousands combined with the total lack of credibility of Azerbaijan to honor any agreements they signed off on, makes their comments laughable.
Despite all the rhetoric, the situation is fairly simple:
1. Karabakh( Artsakh) has been inhabited by Armenians for thousands of years.
2. The dictator Stalin “awarded” Karabakh and Nakitchevan to dilute nationalism in the Soviet states. The same
process of border adjustments was done in the Baltic’s and Ukraine.
3. The Armenians peacefully and legally petitioned to have the injustice reversed.
4. The response of the Azeris was the massacres in Sumgait and Baku along with the Armenkans from Azerbaijan.
5. The Azeris then proceeded to attack the Armenians of Karabakh who took it upon themselves to defend their
homes and families. Bad things happen in war but this was a war the Azeris started.
6. Azeribaijan asked for a cessation of hostilities and a formal cease fire. The Republic of Artsakh began its
journey as a sovereign state.
7. The OSCE has had the exclusive responsibility for the last 25 years to broker a peace deal. Azerbaijan has
continued to undermine the peace process by:
– continuous sniper fire on Armenians units and civilian in the Tavush province of Armenia.
-lack of support for OSCE monitors
– refusal to honor agreements brokered including the recent agreement in Vienna, Geneva and St.
Petersburg concerning source monitoring at the line of contact and elimination of snipers.
– continuous government sponsored anti-Armenian and racist campaigned directed towards the general
Azerbaijani population.
