Homenetmen 11th General World Congress Convenes in Yerevan

YEREVAN—The 11th General World Congress of Homenetmen (Armenian General Athletic Union and Scouts) took place in Aghveran, Armenia, on Sept. 7-11. Sixty-five delegates and 34 guests representing 20 regions participated in the congress, which examined the work of the organization over the past four years and outlined the work to be completed in the coming years.

The congress paid special attention to the scouting and athletic programs of Homenetmen regions around the world and looked to find solutions to the various challenges faced by Armenian youth. Delegates also examined Homenetmen’s organizational structure and ways to expand the reach and work of the organization, including the expansion of the “Marzig” magazine and website.

The 11th World Congress also began planning the large-scale commemorations of the 100th anniversaries of Homenetmen and the First Republic of Armenia, which will take place in 2018.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the congress elected its new Central Executive body, which will lead the organization for the following four years. The members of the 2015-19 Homenetmen Central Executive are Karnig Megerdichian (Lebanon), Hratch Mesrobian (Eastern U.S.), Pakrad Yesayan (Armenia), Viggen Davtian (Western U.S.), Vicken Kortyan (Australia), Mosig Topouzian (Canada), Anto Baharian (France), Armando Torkomian (Argentina), Ishkhan Yeghyayan (Lebanon), Vatche Najarian (Lebanon), Raffi Geovoghlanian (Lebanon), Oshin Puroomian (Armenia), and Alek Katchadrian (England).
