SARF Calls on Community to Mobilize in Support of Syrian Armenians

Armenians from Hasakeh Forced to Abandon Homes

The Syrian Armenian Relief Fund (SARF) held a conference call recently with its counterpart in Aleppo, “SHDAB,” to confirm reports of the displacement of the entire Armenian population of Hasakeh, a city in northeastern Syria that came under attack from the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) in recent weeks.sarf pic

Sources confirmed that 35 families (about 200 residents) had fled north to Qamishli in Syria, where they found temporary refuge among relatives or in local centers. SHDAB, which receives the bulk of its emergency funding from SARF, has dedicated its resources to urgently aid the fleeing refugees, securing food, personal items, and shelter in some situations.

Many face uncertainty regarding their immediate fate, and have little chance of returning to their homes or belongings. The war in Syria continues to rage on, and is spreading from one region to another.

SARF calls on the Armenian community to act by donating generously to our sisters and brothers who today, more than ever before, need our immediate help.
