Music, Poetry Night at Sourp Giragos in Diyarbakir (Photos)

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey (A.W.)—An evening of music and poetry was held at Sourp Giragos Church in Diyarbakir/Dikranagerd on June 11, 2013. The event, attended by more than a thousand people, featured Kurdish musicians Tara Jaff and Pervin Çakar who performed Kurdish and Armenian songs, and poet Azad Ziya Eren.

Gulisor Akkum is a journalist based in Diyarbakir. She received her sociology degree in 2003 from Dicle University. She has written articles for the Armenian Weekly since 2009, and is the Weekly's correspondent in Diyarbakir since October 2012.

Surp Giragos is becoming a space for Armenians and others who appreciate the rich cultural heritage and diversity of this region, a little sign of hope in a world that could be so much better….In Diyarbakir the local movements that were born out of the struggle for their existence have made this possible.
