ALMA Offers Free Admission on ‘Annual Museum Day’

Explore the largest Armenian treasure house in the diaspora on Smithsonian Magazine’s ‘Annual Museum Day’ Sept. 29

WATERTOWN, Mass.—On Sat., Sept. 29, the Armenian Library and Museum of America (ALMA) will open its doors free of charge, along with over 1,400 other participating venues, for the eighth annual “Museum Day Live!”

This immensely successful program, launched by the Smithsonian Magazine, encourages learning and the spread of knowledge nationwide.

For one day only, from 12-6 p.m., ALMA will grant free access to visitors who present a Museum Day Live! admission ticket, available for download on www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday. One ticket is permitted per household, per e-mail address. This year’s Museum Day Live! is expected to attract close to 400,000 participants nationwide.

Current exhibits on display include “Karsh: Celebrating Humanity,” the permanent collection of portraits by renowned Armenian-Canadian portrait photographer Yousuf Karsh, featuring photographs of Winston Churchill, Helen Keller, Aram Khachaturian, and Albert Einstein, among many other famous personalities; “Bound for Glory, 500 Years of Armenian Printing,” marking the 500th anniversary of the first Armenian printed book, published in Venice in 1512; and the “Permanent Genocide Exhibit,” a stunning visual narrative of the genocide, and the continuing aftermath and denial by the Turkish government over generations.
