Aliyev Calls Armenians Fascists at Euronest

BAKU (Yerkir Media)—Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev called Armenians occupiers and fascists during a speech at the Euronest Plenary Session, angering the Armenian Parliamentary delegation and shocking European officials gathered at the meeting.

The Armenian delegation at Euronest

In reporting from Baku on April 3, Vahan Hovannesian, the head of the Armenian delegation and chairman of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) parliamentary bloc, said that during a meeting with Aliyev on the president was welcoming and did not even mention the Karabagh conflict.

But, in what amounted to an attack on a visiting delegation, on April 3 Aliyev asserted that Armenia is occupying Azeri territory and called the policies of its neighbor fascist.

“During the plenary session, Aliyev made shocking aggressive statements calling us fascists, occupiers, who have desecrated their graves. In short, it was quite an awful speech,” Hovannesian later told Yerkir Media. “We are preparing documents now and we’ll distribute them here. We are also going to address the issue in our presentations.”

“Even our European colleagues were shocked,” he added. “Everyone expected that at least the Armenian delegation would be thanked for participating.”

Hovanessian explained that Armenia’s participation in the second assembly of Euronest, the body responsible for implementing the European Union’s Eastern Partnership program (Eop), was welcomed by a cross section of representatives at the conference in Baku.

However, the speech by Aliyev left many surprised and scrambling for words. Hovannesian said that EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule attempted to alleviate Aliyev’s attempts to blame the Karabagh conflict on Armenia through what has become typical anti-Armenian rhetoric and propaganda.

Hovanessian explained that the Armenian delegation would provide a rapid response to the overt gesture of discrimination by the president.

During the session of Euronest’s Political Affairs Committee on April 3, a heated discussion took place between Azeri Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and Armenian Parliamentary Member Naira Zohrabian, who corrected the Azeri minister when he spoke of the “occupied territories” of Azerbaijan by Armenia.

Zohrabian said that Mammadyarov was intentionally falsifying historical events and distorting facts.

“What Mammadyarov is calling ‘occupied’ is nothing but the realization of one of the basic principles of international law, that is, the realization of people’s right to self-determinations,” said Zohrabian.

“The real occupation is that Azerbaijan is currently occupying the Shahumian and Mardakert region,” she added.

Euronest was attended by a 60-member EU delegation, as well as the delegations of Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, and Armenia, comprised of 10 people each.

    • If Turks had any self respect or self esteem for that matter they would face their genocidal past and give back the lands and wealthy they stole through rape & murder of nearly 3 million christian Armenians, Pontiff Greeks and Assyrians..

    • What an ignorant statement.

Quite the contrary, it is because of their self-respect they don’t give over their land and people to murderous thugs masquerading as peaceful leaders.

  1. {““The real occupation is that Azerbaijan is currently occupying the Shahumian and Mardakert region,” she added.”}

Thank you RoA MP Naira Zohrabian.

  2. To Genis. Always remember the Armenian Genocide and occupied Armenian land and shut up!Turks have no say in this!

  3. Turkic tribes will never become part of civilized European nations, it is in their culture and civilization!! Artsakh and most of AzerPYchani land belong to Armenians, those lands given to false created nation by Russian and British Empire, stolen from Iran’s Azerbaijan just, for the sake of Baku’s oil fields!! Eventfully, AzerPYchan will be divided between Iran and Armenia and Russian Federation in the future!!

  4. The verbal attack on Armenia is planned after a huge arms purchase from Israel by Azerbaijan . This is part of a strategic plan of the US through Israel which acts as the US proxy— Nakkeeran

  5. Adding to Ani’s comments – I would said incebles, mentally and illiterate people are ruling so called Azerbaijan – I wonder why Aliyev does not realize that historically Baijan (Persian word) is part of Iran – Oh yap, time will come, by hook or by crock, Iran will annex Baijan to its territory and Aliyev and his followers will be dragged in streets because of their nonsense speeches uttered in international politicians’ meetings. What a shame for such inhuman speeches.

  6. Currently Armenia’s eastern border extends to the kur river also known from the Greek as the Cyrus. What we now have is less than what we historically had. The liberation of Armenian lands will continue…

OKC, we know Armenia is too poor to pay..how much do you get from Armenian diaspora ? is there any ermeni in yor family ?

    necati , 05 April 2012 , 18:13
all armenian officials from 1920 must be prosecuted for their crimes against Turkish civilians . especially for innocent 650 innocent Turkish women and children they massacred over a night in KHODJALY, 1992.

    necati , 05 April 2012 , 18:04
OKC, There were millions of Turkish people in Armenia in 1920 . Today is ZERO. what happened to all these people ? what happened to all Turkish buildings ? WHY does Armenia keep illegal invasion of Azerbaijan Land KARABAGH? OKC ??? i think it is time for Azerbaijan to take KARABAGH back from terrorist armenians..

necati being Hamshen explains a lot about his complex of hiding ‘ is there any ermeni in yor family ?

  8. Actually, if Azerbaijan had any self-respect they would shut up and fight…you know for themselves…without foreign troops….unlike 1991-1994.

    • I don’t think Armenia has any chance this time. Azerbaijan-Iran relations is not the same as it was in 1994. With billions of $$$ generated from the oil industry, money is way sweeter than occupied territories.Their defense budget tops all of Armenia’s government spending since their GDP is 5X more.

    • Alex Blair? You must be Dennis’ brother :)

1.) The Armenians will be on the defensive which means the Azeris will have to mount a major, multi- front offensive. They will need to vastly outnumber the Armenian troops in terms of soldiers, tanks, etc. The Georgians tried this against the vastly outnumbered/outgunned Ossets and after some initial success (due mostly to the element of surprise and lack of defensive preparation on the Ossetian side) were bogged down long enough by a much smaller force of committed and mobile Ossetia militiamen for Russia and Ossetian reinforcements to arrive…and we know how that ended for the Georgians. The Azeris will mostly face disadvantages, their only advantage is the element of surprise but then again this is not gong to be much of an advantage for them as the Armenians hold most of the high ground, can clearly view troop buildups and benefit from Russian intelligence with regards to Azeri troop movement. The other problem for them exists that the Armenians are better experiecnced, trained, equipped and manned than other military formations in the Caucasus and this is re-inforced by the observation of neutral outsiders. Again, they hold the high ground and can easily view Azeri operations/ troop movements, across the line. On paper, the Azeris might appear stronger but in reality, when combines the forces of Armenia and Artsakh, the Azeris have only a slight edge in troops (this is only slight when you consider the combined forces of Armenia and Artsakh), equipment, etc. Until the Azeris actually fight successfully instead of making threats, they are only paper tigers.

      2) If the Azeris are able to breach the initial line of defense, {which will be costly in terms of casualties, in fact, the Azeris will only have one shot at this strategy}, they will still have to cross 2 additional lines which are even more heavily fortified, clear mines, and be able to absorb a massive artillery onslaught for which they will be in the middle of a coordinated trajectory that has been mapped and covered by howitzers, katyushas, grads, mortars, minefields, etc.

      3) if they somehow succede, they will then be bogged down in a mountainous guerrilla war that will ultimately defeat them. The Armenian forces in the region were able to fight successfully this way against combined Azeri-Omon/ Soviet forces prior to the organization of their military structure with but a handful of dedicated men. It should also be noted that in some areas of Artsakh, tanks are ineffective and actually hinder movement. Nor will the Azeris be able to bolster their supply lines in such a mountainous area with good cover or capably re-inforce and resupply.

      4) The Azeris will be racing against the clock; if they are miraculously succesful, they will need to achieve this not in months or weeks but in mere days. The Armenians will be reinforced almost immediately from Armenia proper. Surely, Armenian forces will counter-attack. Again, use the 2008 example of the Russian-Georgian war.

      It should also be noted:

-While the Azeris have been beefing up their military and arsenal, so have the Armenians; Armenia and Artsakh are not resting on their laurels. Russia recently provided and extra billion in equipment, ammo, etc and Armenia has been procuring equipment from various states, not just Russia, at low prices. They have only strengthened this relationship with Russia. They have also stockpiled enough fuel and ammo to fight for many months. The last war was a learning experience for the Armenians and they will not forget those lessons in terms of tactics, supply lines, logisitics, etc.

-If the Azeris have a larger airforce, the Armenians counter with a highly-tuned anti-aircraft system. It was true during the first war and true today. As everyday passes, air-power grows more obsolete when compared the anti-aircraft systems. The latest anti-aircraft weapons are highly effective and much cheaper to purchase and maintain. The Azeris lost dozens of aircraft during the first war with largely outdated systems.

      – The Armenian military is far more effective, professional and organized than the first war. They are lead by experienced and successful veterans. Though brash and cocky, they are being educated by men with real know-how. This in invaluable. The are a highly mobile force that can also fall back on defense and mount a guerilla war if necessary.

      – Again, the Armenians will be fighting a defensive war which means they will absorb attacks and inflict damage on the enemy which is easier than coordinating an an attack. The Armenians only need to stand firm and only need to do so for a short period of time.

      – The Armenians backs will be against the proverbial wall and if attacked they will have higher morale as they did in the first war. Losing will not be a option. In some cases, their families only live a few kilometers from the front. Never underestimate a man fighting against annihilation.

      – If the Azeris attack, investors, business, etc will flee Azerbaijan en masse. The war will be bad for everyone in terms of human loss, economy, etc but the Azeris have much more to lose. Not only that, the BTC pipeline will be destroyed, I can guarnatee. Remember, this is in Russia’s interest too.

-It is highly likely that if the Azeris attacked they will be defeated and suffer high battle casualties which will result in a demoralized military, disorganization, etc. Then they are open for an Armenian counterattack. This happened during the first war. You can forget Turks helping the Azeris, Russia thwarts that threat and their are no longer any significant Chechen forces left to help the Azeris this time. Nor will the Afghan mujaheddin lend a hand this time, they are bogged down against the US and were also totally ineffective against the Armenians in the first war {as were the Chechens}.

If helter-skelter occurs and the Azeris are somehow manage to subjugate Artsakh, the Armenians have one more trump card up their sleeve and I do believe the Azeri high brass, president know about this but are loathe to say anything……

    • Alex,

Actually, you are right that Azerbaijan-Iran relations are not the same as it was in 1991-1994-now it is a lot worse then it used to be.
As long as Azerbaijan is dreaming about annexing part of Iran, is cooperating with Israel and the US, relations between those countries are not going to be good. Armenia has very cordial relations with Iran and I do not see it changing in the near future.

However the Artsakh conflict settlement or the future war outcome will not depend on Iran. As to oil industry, Azerbaijan in not Iran, her oil reserves have been estimated 7 billion barrel, and with pumping out 1 million barrel a day it will not last more than 20 years.

  9. After Liberation of Shahumian and Mardakert,-or simultaneously-Nakhijevan ,Kars Ardahan are in line…
As to further inland into Western Armenia, say Van Bitlis, Erzeroum(Karin) these we shall settle with kurds,in a civil manner,as they have been living there for millenia too and are fed up with Ottoman Turks heirs…

    • And after that, African Americans will be granted their own country in what is now known as North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama & Mississippi. LOL. Keep dreaming your big dream. LIke I said before, there are 100 Million Turks & Azeri’s. Have fun with that.

necati, you have become, quite reluctantly, a clown, one who is full of hatred and self pity. You have a primitive animalistic instinct, that keeps you vicious and torments you day in and day out.I really feel sorry for you. It is strange that time has never changed your childish behavior. Next time there is a Genocide against the Armenians, Jews, Greeks and others, we will offer the sacred job of running the extermination camps to…You. You fit and I sure am, you will fulfill the job on time. Wow, you are the “hero” of our republic. We will need your services when time comes to settle score with our “minority elements,” right?? You are our god and national hero. One who will save our beloved Turkey from these “minority elements.” And oh, we also will offer you the job of exterminating “ermeni lovers” and Turks who are suspected of helping “ermeni people.” Right? WRONG, you are Not a Turk. because a Turkish mother, at least my mother, thought me to LOVE and RESPECT ALL peoples. And before you gloat and throw your typical racist, albeit childish tantrums, look inside your heart, you are suffering, and I honestly feel sorry for you. For you, to attain this great Turkish journalists intellect, high morals, high ethical standards, and love of all human beings, and the list is long, too long…you must live at least 10,000 more years, because “one” lifetime is Not enough for you to learn to love all, irrespective of their race or religion. You owe a GIANT apology to

Shad abris Mine who is the offspring of an Armenian father & Turkish mother.

  11. Apologies as I thought Mine was the offspring…please read the here below:

I am an ethnic Turk (100%) pure Turkish lady, married to an Armenian. Married for 34 years and we love each other to death. As for the young thugs, who portray themselves as vicious, bloodthirsty and violent Turks, they are Not. Our people are Not as these young thugs portray us to be. Dear Armenians, these young kids, living on the fringes of society, are desperately trying to portray our proud Turkey, as a den of murderers, thugs, vicious killers and the rest. We are Not. We are good people, we love and respect all. The Genocide was committed on the orders of a few men who had dictatorial powers. Thousands of Turkish families cried with you, unfortunately, we could do absolutely nothing to help. The parents of my own grandfather did all they could by “warning” their Armenian neighbors to flee because they would be killed. My grandfather became the first direct witness of the Genocide, finding his best friends body, battered and cut. These “thugs” think that bringing our good Turkish name down, makes them look courageous. They don’t realize the monumental damage they are causing for our proud Turkish people. Portraying us All Turks as senseless and vicious killers, do Not bring us honor. And yes “satrap” I am a proud Turk, proud of my ancestry and proud of all the good Turks who did good for all, those include our courageous journalists, artists and others. However, I am Not proud of Turks who act as haters, murderers, and street level criminal thugs. I am Not ashamed of my Turkishness. I was born a Turk, will die a Turk, however, just like our dear journalists, I want this senseless hatred towards our neighbors to end. Today our focus is the Armenians, tomorrow the Jews and Israel, next the Greeks..this vicious cycle must end. We need to muster the courage and accept responsibility for the Genocide of the Armenians, and Assyrians and many others. Germany did, we are no lesser than Germany. We have a powerful nation, we can withstand the repercussions. My gratitude goes to All my Turkish brothers, mostly journalists, artists, and common folk for categorically refusing to “hate.” As for the young, disenfranchised, marginalized thugs hiding and calling cheap shots and trying to shame our proud people, YOU CANNOT SILENCE A TURKISH LADY. Death threats I have received in the past, however, this Turkish lady will Not sit and let a group of young nobodies hijack the good name of my people.

  12. With all due respect and belief to you madam(above Mine Bagrationi) as rgds to your thoughts,pressentations/offer for friendship etc.,
