ARS Youth Connect Program Accepting Applications for Seminar

The Armenian Relief Society (ARS) Eastern Region USA is currently accepting applications for its Youth Connect Program (YCP). DePaul University’s Lincoln Park Campus in Chicago will be the site of the one-day educational seminar, which begins at 9:30 a.m. on March 17 and culminates at 5 p.m. with an opportunity fair, where students can learn about internship and summer program opportunities in both Armenia and the U.S.

This newly redesigned seminar gets its roots from the ARS Summer Studies Program, which began in 1971 with three-week courses on Armenian language, ancient and modern history, and music. Both the Summer Studies Program and the new Youth Connect Program were made possible by the Norian Endowment Fund, created through a generous donation by the late Alice Norian and her sister Doris Norian Lentz, with the purpose of promoting Armenian studies.

Bentley University professor Asbed Kotchikian is the program’s academic director. Previous lectures have been given on history, architecture, and youth-related issues, with students participating in a number of stimulating discussions. This year’s lectures include a talk by Prof. Bedross Der Matossian on the Armenian Quarter of Jerusalem, and a workshop by Kotchikian on the concept of civil society in Armenia.

The program is available to any college-aged student between the ages of 16 and 25 years old. The application fee is $25. Students will be provided meals and transportation to a local area restaurant for dinner and social gathering. Out of town students will be offered overnight accommodations.
