The terminal was officially inaugurated in September, as part of celebratory events marking the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence.

Eduardo Eurnekian, the Argentine-Armenian businessman who signed a 30-year management deal in 2002 to manage Zvartnots and oversee the construction of the airport, expressed his satisfaction over the realization of the project. The Departures Terminal was the last of a series of improvements made since by Eurnekian 2002, totaling $320 million.

Eurnekian said the new airport facility would elevate Armenia’s standing in the international community and will boost tourism by better serving the 3-5 million passengers who annually travel through the airport.

“Armenia needs to have the best, and we are trying to do our best for that,” Eurnekian told reporters, adding that the next phase includes the construction of a new highway and hotel.
