Homenetmen East Coast Panagoum (Day Two)

In groups of five to seven, the scouts used skills such as cutting wood, tying intricate knots, and working as a team to create several watchtowers, gates, and bridges with little to no help from leaders.

After their first night at Homenetmen’s Regional Panagoum, the scouts began their day with morning exercises around the campsite, led by their group leaders. The day’s activities involved using the skills they had learned from the previous day’s workshops. In groups of five to seven, the scouts used skills such as cutting wood, tying intricate knots, and working as a team to create several watchtowers, gates, and bridges with little to no help from their leaders.

Under the leadership of Sosse Beugekian from Boston, Annie Diarbi from Providence, and Ohan-Shant Manoukian from Boston, the “Kayleegs” and “Ardzveegs”(younger scouts) had as their camp theme “Tebi Hayastan” (“Towards Armenia”). In addition to learning scouting hierarchy, scouting symbols, and directions, the scouts also learned about the history of the cities in Western Armenia, where most of their families originated.

One specific activity that both the older and younger scouts loved was playing the game of Jeopardy; this special version included the categories Armenian History, Homenetmen History, Scouting History, History of Western Armenia, Armenian Sports, Armenian Entertainment, and Miscellaneous.

The theme of Saturday night’s Kharougahantes (campfire/performance) was announced today, as “Origins: 25 years of the Homenetmen Eastern Region Panagoum.” Parents and friends from the community have all been invited. Tomorrow the scouts will be going on a rally/hike that involves venturing through the woods to various stations.
