Armenians at UN Come Together

NEW YORK—On May 26, Armenia’s Permanent Mission to the UN hosted its first annual “Armenians at the UN” event. This was a team effort, with longtime UN employee Lucine Tegnazian partnering up with new ARS Coordinator Houry Geudelekian, to bring together Armenians working at different UN entities.

The invitees gathered to celebrate their successes and to share their experiences at the UN. “We will gather here in this mission every year to celebrate our successes, the independence of Armenia and its future endeavors within UN entities, with its talented Armenian staff and volunteers,” said Ambassador Karen Nazarian, permanent representative of Armenia at the UN.

Former Ambassador Movses Abelian, currently director of the Security Council Affairs Division, recounted the history of the building that ended up housing the Permanent Mission.

At any given time, there are more than 70 Armenians from around the world who are UN employees, who work or volunteer for the UN Mission, or are members of ECOSOC.

Tegnazian thanked Nazarian for his hospitality. “On behalf of the United Nations Armenians, we greatly appreciate your hospitality, graciousness, and warmth you showed us. We all truly felt at home!”

“As a new member of this community, it gives me such pleasure to be part of what we now are referring to as the Armenians at UN group,” said Geudelekian.
