Marshall G. Basmajian, 87, formerly of North Providence, R.I., died peacefully at his home in Estero, Fla., on July 28,. He was the husband of Geri (Gwynn) Basmajian for 38 years. He was the stepfather of Dean Maffie of Menlo Park, Calif., Chris Maffie of Denton, Texas, and Lisa Carr of Colleyville, Texas; and grandfather of Christopher Maffie, William Marshall Carr, and Kristen Carr. He was the son of the late Giragos and Zarouhi Basmajian; brother of John Basmajian and his wife Anna of North Providence, and the late Vera Lindo. He was the uncle of Charlene Bannon of Narragansett, R.I., and the late John Lindo.
A retired lieutenant colonel of the U.S. Army serving 30 years, he was a veteran of World War II and Korea. He was an avid reader, card player, and military history enthusiast, as well as a former member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Central Executive Committee and served as a delegate to the ARF World Convention in Beirut, Lebanon. Funeral arrangements were private.
