WATERTOWN, Mass. The Kermesse attracted more than 4,000 Armenians and non-Armenians from New England and beyond. Hundreds came to Watertown from New Hampshire, New York, Connecticut, and Providence to enjoy the Kermesse, which included a performance by Armenchik on the evening of Sept. 11 and by Onnik Dinkjian, accompanied by master oud player John Berberian and his band, the next day.

The weekend festivities took place on the grounds of the Armenian Cultural and Educational Center (ACEC) in Watertown, on Nichols Avenue between Bigelow and Elton Avenues.

The funds raised by the Kermesse will help to maintain the ACEC and its educational and cultural programs, now in its 30th year. The ACEC was established in 1980 and is a duly registered 501© (3) non-profit charitable organization.

According to Kermesse chairperson Ara Nazarian, the two-day celebration showcased the Armenian community as one of the many ethnic groups that have made Watertown a diverse and vibrant community. Since its inception as a community center in 1980, the ACEC has hosted a wide range of educational, cultural, religious, and charitable events.

  1.   I would like to congratulate and applaud the organizers of Kermesse for taking the risk to try something different. The result was a fantastic offering for the Armenian community and the general public. It was the place to be with Armenchik on Saturday night. Great place for our young people to gather. There was something for everyone in an inviting atmosphere. It combined the social atmosphere of our bazaars and the musical offerings of our dances and concert. The art work on display was a good move.
The creative energy of the organizing committee was commendable. I am sure that everyone will be looking forward to Kermesse 2011!!
