Red Cross CEO to Address ARS Centennial Symposium at USC

GLENDALE, Calif.—Paul Schulz, the CEO of the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles, will speak about volunteerism and the Armenian Relief Society (ARS) as the luncheon keynote speaker at a landmark symposium celebrating the centennial of the ARS on Sat., Sept. 18, at the University of Southern California (USC).

Schulz heads the nation’s second largest Red Cross chapter and serves on the board of Goodwill Industries of Southern California. He was previously senior vice president and general manager of Yahoo! and president of Recycler Classifieds. He has a master’s in philosophy, politics, and economics from Oxford, England, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.

As part of the Armenian Relief Society’s centennial celebration this year, the symposium, titled “Building Blocks for the Future,” will review and critique the ARS’s 100 years of humanitarian aid. The ARS is the oldest existing Armenian women’s philanthropic organization. With 15,000 members residing in 26 countries and consultative status on the United Nations’ Economic and Social Council, the ARS continues its mission of providing social, economic, and educational assistance to Armenians throughout the world.

Cultural preservation: Ani Moughamian, University of California Los Angeles
Philanthropy: Houry Sanderson, Fresno Superior Court
Governance: William Bairamian, Columbia University
Media and public relations: Anita Vogel, Fox News Channel
Education: Paul Narguizian, California State University Los Angeles
Empowerment of women: Nyree Derderian, Stanford University

“Building Blocks for the Future” is sponsored by the ARS of Western USA Regional Executive in partnership with the Institute of Armenian Studies at USC. The symposium will be held at the Town and Gown Hall at USC, 665 Exposition Blvd., Los Angeles, on Sept. 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Symposium attendance is free to pre-registered attendees, who will be provided with breakfast and lunch. Registration forms are available at www.arswestusa.org. The deadline to pre-register is Mon., Sept. 13. Due to limited space, early registration is advised.
