Elizabeth A. (Artroogian) Vagshenian, or “Betty” as she was known, of Barrington, R.I., passed away on Sat., July 31 at RI Hospital in Providence.
She was the beloved wife of the late Simon Vagshenian. Born in Haverhill, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Haratoun and Mariam Artroogian.
Betty was a commercial bookkeeper and later an administrative assistant at Brown University for many years before retiring. She was a member of the Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church and its Women’s Guild, and The Newman “Y” of East Providence. She served for the last 32 years as an usher at the Providence Performing Arts Center.
She was the devoted mother of Gregory S. Vagshenian, M.D. and his wife Athena of Austin, Texas, and Donna L. Vagshenian and her husband Michael J. Kelly of North Kingstown, R.I.; dear sister of Souren Artroogian of Chelsea, Mass.; loving grandmother of Erik Vagshenian, the late Mark Vagshenian, Nicholas Kelly, Wendi Severance, Stephen Robinson, and Elizabeth Machajewski; and loving great-grandmother of Steven, Katie, Sara, David, Adam, Kolby, and Luke.
A funeral service was held on Wed., Aug. 4 in Sts. Vartanantz Church. Interment will be at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence.
