Ice Skating with the New Jersey ‘Arsen’ AYF

By Armen Alashaian, 11

On Friday, Feb. 26, the New Jersey “Arsen” AYF Chapter had an ice skating night. This event took place at the Ice House in Hackensack, N.J. This complex has four ice rinks and we were able to have our own rink for all of our guests.

AYF Juniors, Seniors, family members, and alumni attended the ice-skating night.

We had AYF Juniors, Seniors, family members, and alumni. We also had a few people who were planning on joining the AYF attend. Altogether, we had 62 skater and about 25 spectators. We skated for a 1 hour and 15 minutes.

At our skating night, we had all different kinds of skaters. We had beginners, intermediate level skaters, and some very advanced skaters. Several of my friends and I were definitely beginner level skaters. For many of us, myself included, it was the first time we had ever gone ice skating.

When I first stepped on the ice, I had to force myself off of the walls. After a little while, I started to feel comfortable on the ice and felt like I was getting the hang of it. Even though I felt I had figured it out, it was amazing to me the number of times I fell and hit the ice. Despite falling a lot, I still had a great time. I like to thank our New Jersey AYF Seniors for organizing the night. I look forward to lots of other AYF activities.
