Nargizian Runs NYC Marathon, Raises $35,000 for Hovnanian School

NEW MILFORD, N.J.—There is always a way to obtain personal satisfaction by helping someone else, even through seemingly small goals. Karen Nargizian, the mother of three boys who attend the Hovnanian School, recently accomplished such a “small” goal.

On Sun., Nov. 1, Nargizian finished the New York City Marathon in 4 hours and 22 minutes. “I loved seeing my family and friends out there cheering for me along the 26.2 miles,” she said. But running and crossing the finishing line was not the only goal. The funds she raised with the help of her sister, Kristine Casali, increased the school’s financial aid fund by $35,000.

Nargizian has been a part of the school’s community and one of its biggest advocates long before her eldest son, Alexander, now in the fifth grade, began attending the school as a nursery student.

With Nargizian’s help, many more children will now be able to attend the Hovnanian School. “I got so choked up when I saw students of the Hovnanian School out there cheering me on,” she said. Nargizian’s example has shown that there are many ways to raise funds and advocate on every level.
