The Nareg Armenian Saturday School of Sts. Vartanatz Church in Ridgefield, N.J. opened its doors on Sat., Sept. 12 for its 50th school year. The students greeted each other enthusiastically and were happily welcomed by their teachers and administrators.
The school’s new principal, Mrs. Gurunian, along with the school trustees, teachers, and PTO met after school for a brief lunch, hosted by the principal, to discuss and plan for the 2009-10 school year.
The Nareg School has now been open for over a month, and the students are well underway in their studies and activities. As in other years, Nareg is preparing to observe and celebrate Holy Translators Day (Tarkmanchats Don) during October. The students are practicing special readings, recitations, and songs in honor of St. Mesrob Mashdots and the Armenian Cultural month, which is observed in October every year.
The school is also gearing up other events and celebrations, including the New Year/Armenian Christmas hantes, Sts. Vartanantz Day, and the much-anticipated Talent Show. The students cannot wait to get on stage and show what they have learned, and their family members are thrilled to see and encourage them.
We wish the students a productive, happy and exciting year.
