Family of Five Can Save $200 at Sts. Vartanantz Church Bazaar

By Michael Mirakian

The economy stinks, the stock market is down, and we’re in a recession. We know times are tough. That’s why Sts. Vartanantz Church has not only frozen its prices from last year, but has also arranged to have a family of five save $200 just by showing up for the Saturday evening dance.

New Jersey’s oldest and best bazaar will take place from Friday to Sunday, Nov 20-22. We’ve got it all this year. An expanded food festival, hantes, and bazaar. Kebab dinners for everyone, with chicken, shish, and the best luleh anywhere. Sunday is everyone’s favorite dinner: gavourma. Just saying it makes my mouth water. Forget baking for Thanksgiving one week later, pick up trays of homemade Armenian goodies to serve your guests, all on sale along with pre-packaged mante, souboereg, kufte, and lahmajun. Bring the kids. We’ll have a Peanut Carnival and game room to keep them busy and happy all night long. Of course, there will be 50-50s and auctions all weekend but make sure not to pass up Zohrab’s fresh made mousabek; but you have to hurry since he can’t keep up with the demand. Friday night we have the Grand Chinese Auction (Cheen-ah-gan Ah-joot, if you want to know the Armenian name for it). Saturday evening we have a Silent Auction (anyone have an Armenian name for that?). It will be a lot of fun for eve
ryone and the gifts are just fabulous.

I’ve saved the best for last and here’s how a family can save $200. Saturday evening we host an old-fashioned hantes with Onnik Dinkjian—for free. No I’m kidding—free! The last dance where I saw Onnik, they charged $40 per person. So bring the family, bring your neighbors, it’s free! Along with Onnik will be some of the finest Armenian musicians around today: Dikran Barsamian, Harold Hagopian, Bruce Gigarjian, and Chuck Yegian. Sing along with Onnik or get up and dance, it’s your choice. Why not come for dinner and stay for the dance?

There, I just saved you $200 and that’s not including what you’ll save buying up discounted gifts at the numerous booths around the hall.

Remember, this is one of New Jersey’s oldest and best Armenian church bazaar’s. Don’t miss it!

See you on Nov 20-22 at Sts. Vartanantz Church, 461 Bergen Blvd. in Ridgefield N.J.
