Oshagan: Our Weapon is Our Intellectual Strength

On April 5, in the auspices of the ARF Bureau’s offices in Yerevan, the Central Executive of Armenia’s ARF Youth Organization organized a special seminar for members and executives from the country’s various chapters.

The purpose of the seminar was to further familiarize ARF youth with the issues affecting young people in Armenia, to examine different perspectives, and explore what can be done.

The agenda of the seminar also featured visits with the president of the ARF Supreme Body in Armenia, Hratch Tatevosyan, ARF Bureau member and youth issues advisor Haig Oshagan; and the coordinator of the ARF Bureau’s Youth Office, Sarkis Mgrditchian.

Oshagan, who is from the eastern United States, also spoke to the seminar participants about many of the issues facing Armenian youth in America. He pointed out that, in the Armenian Diaspora, fighting assimilation and maintaining Armenian identity are pressing concerns. He suggested that pursuing the Armenian Cause plays a role in maintaining the diaspora and keeping youth from drifting away from their Armenian roots.

In his conclusion, Oshagan said, “Our weapon today can only be our minds, our intellectual strength. On our agenda today is not only the just resolution of the Armenian Cause or the settlement of the Karabagh issue but also the issue of human rights, current socio-economic conditions in Armenia, and many other matters.”
